Vinted is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer within the Platform unit to own backend services, tooling, and critical delivery paths. You will help drive AI-assisted engineering and elevate the end‑to‑end development lifecycle across the engineering organization.

You will contribute to robust CI/CD pipelines, improve observability, and mentor peers to adopt best practices in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Information about the position

We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Engineering Experience domain in Vinted’s Platform unit. Our domain builds the tools, platforms and golden paths that the rest of Vinted Engineering relies on every day - from the first line of code an engineer writes to the moment it runs safely in production.

Engineering Experience is made up of several teams, each owning a part of the engineering workflow:

CI/CD owns the path from idea to Docker image and on to production: code repository hosting and continuous integration, build artifacts and secrets, and deployment through ArgoCD - all offered as managed, self‑serve services.

Development Environments & AI is responsible for development environments and the engineering AI tooling ecosystem. Its flagship is Spinup, a cloud development environment that lets engineers and coding agents validate changes in remote environments without the complexity of managing local services. The team also leads the adoption of AI‑assisted engineering across the company.

DevPortal builds Vinted’s internal developer portal - the service catalog and self‑service workflows that give every team clear ownership, golden paths and one place to provision and operate their services.

Quality Engineering delivers tooling and golden paths for effective quality assurance across Vinted, from test infrastructure to reporting and quality metrics.

Depending on your strengths and interests, you’ll join one of these teams, where you’ll help suggest, design, and implement solutions that enable fast and reliable development, integration, delivery, and quality — while ensuring their successful adoption across the organisation.

In this position, you’ll

• Own Technical Design & Delivery : Design, build, and own backend services, tooling, and frameworks that make development and delivery fast, safe, and reliable.
• Drive AI‑Assisted Engineering : Explore, adopt, and integrate AI‑assisted workflows and coding agents across the software development lifecycle — creating the context, conventions, guardrails, and evaluation frameworks that ensure AI‑generated code meets Vinted’s high quality and safety standards.
• Accelerate Developer Feedback Loops : Improve cloud environments (such as Spinup) and automated CI/CD/PR pipelines so engineers and autonomous agents can validate and merge changes in seconds rather than managing local environments.
• Champion Code Quality & Testing : Write clean, modular, and maintainable code with thorough test coverage across all layers (Unit, Integration, E2E), while keeping architectures pragmatic and avoiding over‑engineering.
• Ensure Observability & Reliability : Build robust monitoring, logging, and alerting for platform services, proactively identifying performance bottlenecks and leading the resolution of complex issues and incidents.
• Mentor & Elevate Peers : Actively guide and mentor fellow engineers, conduct insightful code reviews, share best practices, and write clear technical proposals (RFCs / ADRs) to build consensus and drive adoption across the engineering organization.

About you

• Solid Engineering Foundations : You have substantial experience designing, building, and running scalable backend systems and distributed services in production.
• Pragmatic System Designer: You understand architectural trade‑offs, know how to balance quick iteration with long‑term system stability, and create clear boundaries and interfaces.
• AI & Developer Tooling Mindset: You actively use AI tools to accelerate your own engineering workflow, understand the practical limitations and failure modes of LLMs, and know how to design guardrails and scaffolding around them.
• Ownership & Problem‑Solving: You are comfortable taking ambiguous engineering problems, breaking them down into structured milestones, and driving them to completion with high autonomy.
• Mentorship & Collaboration : You enjoy mentoring less experienced engineers, providing actionable feedback, and collaborating across teams to help colleagues adopt new tools and practices.
• Operational & Observability Awareness: You understand how application code intersects with infrastructure and are accustomed to instrumenting your services with metrics, traces, and logs.
• Communication: Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to articulate technical ideas clearly through documentation, RFCs, and discussions.

It’s a plus if you have:

• Hands‑on experience with Go, Kubernetes, Docker, ArgoCD, or cloud infrastructure.
• Prior experience working in a Platform, Developer Tooling, CI/CD, or DevEx team.
• Experience integrating LLM APIs, coding agents, or developer productivity workflows into real‑world development pipelines.

Workation policy

Better balance holidays with workdays by working remotely! Up to 90 days per year in the EU, of these, 21 days can be spent globally. For non‑EU citizens, it’s 21 days worldwide. This can be combined with time off for vacation or personal time.
