Job summary

Selby Jennings is seeking a Dutch-qualified Banking & Finance lawyer in Amsterdam to handle high-profile financing matters from energy transition project finance to acquisition finance. You will advise on diverse structures, draft and negotiate core financing documents, and guide transactions to closing on both lender and borrower sides.

You will collaborate across departments, support knowledge development, and mentor junior lawyers in a dynamic, international practice.

Qualifications

• Dutch-qualified lawyer with solid Banking & Finance experience.
• Exposure to both lender and borrower financing transactions.
• (extra) Should be fluent in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
• Experience with finance documentation and transaction execution.
• Interest in financial restructuring is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Advise on financing structures including acquisition, leveraged, real estate, project and structured finance.
• Draft and negotiate LMA-style loan agreements, security documents, direct and intercreditor agreements.
• Guide transactions through closing, on both lender and borrower sides.
• Prepare opinions on finance and security law matters.
• Maintain client relationships and identify market opportunities.
• Collaborate with Corporate/M&A, Litigation, Financial Regulatory, Real Estate and Notarial teams.
• Contribute to knowledge development and thought leadership.
• Coach junior lawyers and support growth of the Banking & Finance practice.
• Contribute to the continued growth of the Banking & Finance team.

Our client's Finance & Restructuring practice is looking for a driven Banking & Finance lawyer ready for their next step. The team works on complex, high-profile financing matters, from energy transition project finance to acquisition finance and capital markets deals, advising an international client base spanning banks, non-bank lenders, pension funds, private equity houses, fintechs, healthcare institutions and listed companies, on both the lender and borrower side.

Responsibilities

• Advise on a broad range of financing structures, including acquisition finance, leveraged finance, real estate finance, project finance, structured finance and non-bank financing
• Draft and negotiate finance documentation, including LMA-style loan agreements, security documents, direct agreements and intercreditor agreements
• Guide transactions through to successful closing, working across both lender and borrower side
• Prepare legal opinions and advise on finance and security law matters
• Act as a key point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong relationships
• Proactively identify opportunities and trends in the market for clients and the practice
• Collaborate closely with colleagues across Corporate/M&A, Litigation, Financial Regulatory, Real Estate and the Notarial practice
• Contribute to knowledge development within the practice, including publishing and thought leadership
• Coach and support the development of more junior lawyers within the team
• Play an active role in the continued growth of the Banking & Finance practice

Profile

• Dutch-qualified lawyer with solid experience in Banking & Finance
• Ideally, exposure to both the lender and borrower side of financing transactions
• Good grounding in property law, private international law and/or insolvency law
• Demonstrable experience with finance documentation and transaction execution
• An interest in financial restructuring is considered a plus
• Fluent in Dutch and English, both spoken and written
• A collaborative mindset, with the ambition to build client relationships and grow within the practice
