Job summary

Job description

Within the SAFE4ALL project, there is the need for a person to develop policy reviews, report on scientific progress, and organize meetings between scientists and/or with stakeholders (including reporting). We are looking for someone who is used to academic reasoning and discussions to critically support progress of project scientists. This person will ensure smooth progress of the project and coordinate actions between different partners and external parties especially from Africa.

You will work in an interdisciplinary team with African and European partners. Travel to Africa and within Europe is likely to be part of the project activities.

About SAFE4ALL

SAFE4ALL addresses food security, disaster management and migration issues with the prime objective to better support local and regional actors in decision-making to safeguard African foodsheds and to build resilience in communities across scales. The formulation and implementation of climate adaptation and resilience plans at the regional and local level needs to speed up rapidly to keep pace with projections of climate risks.

SAFE4ALL aims to harness the EU climate services landscape and leverage it with local knowledge from African case studies to co-create information and facilitate its uptake at the local to district and regional levels. SAFE4ALL advances the uptake of user-centred climate services in three carefully selected vulnerable regions across Africa, strengthening and expediting adaptation and resilience in those regions. Co-creation cases include services ranging from ecosystem management, agriculture and disaster management at time scales of near-real-time to seasonal forecasts.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering & Geosciences (CEG) is committed to outstanding international research and education in the field of civil engineering, applied earth sciences, traffic and transport, water technology, and delta technology. Our research feeds into our educational programmes and covers societal challenges such as climate change, energy transition, resource availability, urbanisation and clean water. Our research projects are conducted in close cooperation with a wide range of research institutions. CEG is convinced of the importance of open science and supports its scientists in integrating open science in their research practice. The Faculty of CEG comprises 28 research groups in the following seven departments: Materials Mechanics Management & Design, Engineering Structures, Geoscience and Engineering, Geoscience and Remote Sensing, Transport & Planning, Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management.

Conditions of employment

• Duration of contract is 15 Months. Temporary external finance.
• A job of 18-24 hours per week.
• A salary based on Scale 10 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a salary between €3706 - €5760 gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
