Job summary

Backbase is seeking a Principal Solutions Engineer to design and test Digital Banking and Agentic Banking solutions for banks, combining banking knowledge with technical leadership. You will run customer workshops, build prototypes, and ensure solutions meet business and technical needs.

Qualifications

• Experience designing complex enterprise solutions in solutions engineering, technical consulting or enterprise software presales.
• Strong knowledge of retail, business, corporate banking or wealth management.
• Practical experience with AI agents, knowledge retrieval and AI applications, including orchestration, tool integration, testing, monitoring and error handling.
• Ability to build, test, and troubleshoot solutions using AI-assisted development tools while following strong validation and data-handling practices.
• Understanding of enterprise architecture, APIs, integrations, cloud, identity, security and data flows.
• Ability to communicate with senior executives and engineers, explain technical concepts and clarify business and technical trade-offs.
• A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to work independently when requirements are unclear.
• Experience mentoring colleagues and willingness to travel for customer engagements approximately 25% of the time.

As a Principal Solutions Engineer at Backbase, you help banks solve complex challenges using BankingOS. You combine banking knowledge and technical skills to design and test solutions for Digital Banking and Agentic Banking.

You work directly with customers to build prototypes, test ideas and find practical solutions. You understand both business needs and technical requirements, from executive priorities to system architecture and engineering. You work with customers and internal teams to connect BankingOS with existing systems and ensure solutions meet their needs.

The role offers variety, from discussions with senior executives to technical workshops and integration challenges. You will work independently, influence customer decisions, contribute to product improvements, and support other team members' development.

What you'll own

Lead discovery and solution design: Understand the bank’s goals, workflows and limitations. Identify opportunities for Digital Banking and Agentic Banking and define clear success criteria.

Build and test solutions: Turn requirements into working demonstrations and prototypes. Run customer workshops, test ideas and help teams make decisions.

Develop Agentic Banking solutions: Connect AI agents to banking knowledge, tools and workflows through BankingOS. Test their reliability, handle errors and determine when human oversight is needed.

Coordinate the solution: Work with Sales, Value Consultants, Solutions Architects, Product, Services and partners to address dependencies and balance business value, cost and technical complexity.

Own the Digital Solution Document (DSD): Document the BankingOS solution, customer journeys, integrations and key decisions. Include the dependencies and controls required to move from prototype to production.

Lead technical validation: Help customers assess AI reliability, data privacy, security and agent autonomy through practical testing and collaboration with specialists.

Support delivery: Align Services teams and partners on commitments and success criteria. Help resolve technical questions during implementation.

Support the team: Mentor colleagues, create reusable solution assets and share customer feedback with the product team.

What you'll bring
