This position offers influence over foundational software used across multiple device categories. You’ll see architectural decisions through into products, combining a long-term view of the platform with practical involvement in its development.
Take architectural ownership of the software layer that connects HarmonyOS with its application ecosystems. Working across smartphones and PCs, you’ll determine how middleware and application frameworks develop to meet the demands of compatibility, performance, and scale.
Your responsibility extends from long-term technical planning to implementation in commercial devices. You’ll work through complex system constraints with engineering teams and establish the standards that guide development as the platform evolves.
Your technical remit:
- Set platform architectural direction: Translate long-term middleware needs into a technical roadmap for HarmonyOS.
- Design across devices and ecosystems: Develop middleware and framework architectures that accommodate different application environments and cross-platform requirements.
- Address performance and reliability constraints: Resolve issues affecting memory consumption, application startup, system stability, compatibility, and scalability.
- Carry designs through to product delivery: Guide implementation with technical teams and address engineering challenges as solutions progress into commercial products.
- Define how solutions are engineered: Establish architecture standards, development practices, and quality controls.
- Assess future technical options: Use developments in operating systems and cross-platform frameworks to inform the platform’s evolution.
The experience you bring:
- Substantial experience developing system-level software and working with Android or iOS application frameworks.
- Practical experience with React Native, Flutter, or an equivalent cross-platform framework.
- A strong grasp of operating-system design and the principles behind its implementation.
- Evidence of resolving complex software architecture problems involving performance, compatibility, or reliability.
- The ability to communicate architectural decisions clearly and collaborate across engineering disciplines.
Useful, but not essential:
- Additional platform experience spanning Android, iOS, Fuchsia, ChromeOS, EulerOS, or comparable systems.
- Collaboration with external technology providers or application ecosystem partners.
- Established professional experience in Europe and work with international technical teams.
- A relevant degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics, or equivalent practical experience.
What is on offer:
- Competitive European salary with a performance-related bonus.
- Flexible working model within an international R&D environment.
- Position within a leading global technology group, with the full brief shared once we have spoken.
