Job summary

Delft University of Technology is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to develop models for designing tunnels with concrete lining at disposal depth in deep plastic clay formations.

You will work within the Geo-Engineering section of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, collaborating with experts in tunneling, materials and environment to deliver validated methods for design tools and practical solutions.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in finite element and constitutive modelling applied to geotechnical, structural, or construction materials.
  • Track record of independent research with peer-reviewed publications.
  • Strong interest in applied, solution-oriented research and practical engineering solutions.
  • Excellent written and spoken English (TOEFL 100 or IELTS 7.0).

Responsibilities

  • Develop models to design tunnels with concrete lining at disposal depth.
  • Address questions on monitoring data, parameters and mechanisms governing tunnel-clay response.
  • Capture time-dependent behaviour of deep plastic clay and segmented lining in simple, design-friendly models.
  • Collaborate with the Geo-Engineering supervisory team to deliver practical design tools.
