Job summary

NIOZ invites a post-doctoral researcher for a two-year MONS project focused on how zooplankton transfer energy to higher trophic levels, including fish and gelatinous taxa, under changing North Sea conditions.

The project combines field data analysis, DNA metabarcoding, and stable isotope approaches, with mesocosm experiments and occasional multiday cruises to collect samples. Based in Yerseke with strong collaboration across institutes.

Qualifications

• PhD in marine ecology with evidence of activity in zooplankton studies.
• Experience with DNA metabarcoding techniques or related sequencing workflows.
• Collaborative mindset with strong written and spoken English communication.

Responsibilities

• Study the transfer of zooplankton to higher trophic levels using field and lab data.
• Analyze size, biomass and isotope data from the ongoing North Sea monitoring program.
