Delft University of Technology invites applications for a Postdoc in the MetNH3Energy project in Delft. The role focuses on assessing techno-economic and environmental performance of ammonia value chains to support sustainable pathways for carbon footprint reduction.
You will perform process modelling (ASPEN) and TEA/LCA analyses, using scenario-based approaches to explore future impacts. The position is 32–40 hours per week for 1 year, with competitive NL university salary, and opportunities
Work at the intersection of hydrogen, ammonia, and sustainability. Join the MetNH3Energy project and help identify low-carbon solutions that can power Europe's energy trans
The European Union (EU), through initiatives such as REPowerEU, REFuelEU, and FuelEU Maritime, is driving the transition toward lower greenhouse gas emissions. Green hydrogen is expected to play a key role, with part of the demand being met through imports. Ammonia is emerging as a promising hydrogen carrier due to its suitability for storage, transport, and applications such as ammonia cracking, shipping, and power generation. As part of the European MetNH3Energy project, you will assess the techno-economic and environmental performance of three ammonia value chains to support the identification of sustainable pathways for carbon footprint reduction. The role involves conducting process modeling, ex-ante techno-economic (TEA) and life cycle (LCA) assessments. Because several technologies under evaluation are not yet commercial, you will apply scenario-based “what-if” analyses to evaluate their future environmental and economic impacts. This work will contribute to developing sustainable ammonia and hydrogen solutions that support the EU's energy transition objectives.
