Job description

Platform Engineer at Nedap

Are you an experienced Platform Engineer who enjoys building scalable cloud solutions and thrives on complex technical challenges? As a Platform Engineer at Nedap in the dairy farming sector, you will work on the further development of Nedap Now, the cloud platform that processes millions of messages every day from dairy farms around the world.

Together with your team, you will build the foundation on which other teams can reliably develop, host and roll out their solutions. You will focus on managing and improving our hosting environment on Kubernetes, automating build and deployment processes, and further professionalising our infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with fellow developers to design and review solutions, solve technical challenges, and ensure that Nedap Now remains stable, secure and scalable for today and the future.

Tech stack: The tech stack is largely based on Microsoft technology. Our teams are at the forefront of adopting new technologies and are constantly looking for ways to make the platform smarter, more reliable and more scalable. Nedap Now is hosted on Azure and runs on a modern Kubernetes environment. The entire infrastructure is rolled out automatically across multiple Azure regions, ensuring the platform remains globally available, robust and future‑proof.

The platform processes millions of incoming messages every day, and the ambition is to see this grow exponentially in the coming years. Observability plays a key role in reliably supporting that growth. That is why we use the LGTM stack: Loki, Grafana, Tempo and Thanos. This gives teams insight into logging, metrics, tracing and dashboards, enabling them to quickly identify, analyse and improve.

You will therefore be working in a modern cloud‑native environment where Azure, Kubernetes, infrastructure automation and observability come together.

Your responsibilities

In this role, you will make a direct contribution to the stability, security and scalability of our cloud platform. You will be responsible for:

Development

  • Developing and maintaining the platform components required to keep our Kubernetes hosting environment reliable, scalable and easy to manage.

Automation

  • Implementing and improving automation in our build, deployment and release processes, so that teams can deploy quickly, securely and predictably.

Infrastructure

  • Further developing our Azure infrastructure, with a focus on Kubernetes, networking, security, Identity and Access Management, and reliability.

Technical decisions

  • Making well‑considered technical decisions together with your team and reviewing code.

Architecture

  • Contributing ideas on the architecture of our platform foundations and identifying opportunities for improvement in terms of scalability, monitoring, performance and reliability.

Cloud support

  • Together with your team, you analyse critical issues in the field and work on solutions for the software for which you are responsible.

Your team

As a Platform Engineer, you will join an experienced and close‑knit platform team, consisting of a Product Owner, Developers and a Software Test Engineer who also acts as the Scrum Master. The team is responsible for the Azure platform behind Nedap Now: from platform services and shared libraries to infrastructure and security. In doing so, you create the foundation that enables other cloud teams to develop and roll out solutions independently, securely and reliably. Together with other cloud teams within Livestock, you ensure that Nedap Now continues to grow as a reliable and scalable platform for our solutions in the global dairy sector.

You have the freedom to explore new ideas and pursue opportunities where they arise, but this also requires close collaboration. Knowledge is deliberately not concentrated in one person; we regularly brainstorm, share insights and help one another where necessary. There is an open and collegial atmosphere in which professionalism and enjoyment go hand in hand.

What's in it for you?

As a Platform Engineer at Nedap, you will make a valuable contribution to our goal: making people happier and more successful in their professional lives. In addition to your salary, you are entitled to a thirteenth month, a good pension scheme, and profit sharing with the opportunity to become a shareholder of Nedap. At Nedap, everything revolves around trust and autonomy. That’s why, along with your colleagues, you decide on your own working hours and vacation days to maintain a healthy work‑life balance. We also highly value personal and professional growth. You will receive a comprehensive introduction, and we encourage you to continuously develop yourself.

Required skills

You are innovative and curious about new technologies, and you quickly grasp how to adopt them. You are also honest, transparent and sociable. You are not afraid to voice your opinion in a discussion and can brainstorm on complex topics to collectively add value to our software platform.

You will also recognise yourself in the following:

  • Experience: You have demonstrable experience in a similar role managing and further developing modern cloud‑native environments, preferably within Azure and Kubernetes.
  • Kubernetes and hosting: You are at home with Kubernetes and have experience with hosting, deployments, scalability, networking and reliability within a production environment.
  • Cloud proficiency: You have experience with a cloud platform, preferably Azure, for example with AKS, Azure DevOps, networking and security. Experience with AWS, Google Cloud or another cloud provider is also a good fit.
  • DevOps: You are comfortable working within a DevOps environment and actively contribute to automation, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, Terraform, etc.), infrastructure improvements and operational reliability.
  • Language skills: You have a good command of Dutch and English.

Nice to have:

  • Observability: You have experience with monitoring, logging, metrics and tracing. Knowledge of the LGTM stack is a strong plus.
  • C#/.NET: You have experience setting up shared libraries in C#.

Good to know: Hybrid (remote) working is common within Nedap and together with your team you will arrange your own working hours for a good work‑life balance. You are preferably present at our campus in Groenlo at least two times a week.
