Job summary

University of Twente invites applications for a research position focusing on radiative exchanges in diverse environments, using in-situ measurements and remote sensing. You will connect ITEM sensor networks to airborne and satellite observations and develop near-surface and atmospheric radiative transport models.

You will present results, publish in journals, supervise MSc students, and contribute to teaching within the ITC/LIFE departments in an international, multidisciplinary setting.

Qualifications

  • MSc in physics, meteorology, hydrology, physical geography, or a related field.
  • Creative mindset and strong analytical skills.
  • Able to conduct independent research and field data collection.
  • Interested in cross-disciplinary research.
  • Experience with quantitative (satellite) earth observation analysis tools; willingness to deepen.
  • Good programming skills; experience with C, C++, Fortran or a matching language.
  • Good communication skills and proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Good team spirit; some teaching in ITC courses may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Work on remote sensing-based observational modelling combining ground observations with airborne/satellite imagery.
  • Couple and upscale radiative in-situ observations to airborne/satellite data via radiative transport modelling.
  • Examine bidirectional reflectance and hotspot effects across land-cover types and ecosystems.
  • Present results at meetings, publish in journals, and contribute to teaching and mentoring MSc students.
