Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) invites applications for a PhD candidate in the Process & Energy group within the Mechanical Engineering faculty. The project focuses on designing advanced power cycles for small modular reactors (SMRs) to enhance load-following, using coupled transient power-cycle and reactor modelling.

You will work with leading researchers, access top facilities, and contribute to shaping the Dutch nuclear landscape.

Qualifikationen

• MSc in physics or mechanical engineering or similar field.
• Strong affinity with thermodynamics and transport equations.
• Ample experience in thermodynamic system modelling, in particular transient modelling.
• Interest in nuclear industry and its future roles in society.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Aufgaben

• Design advanced power cycles for SMRs, with or without energy storage, to enable enhanced load-following.
• Couple transient power-cycle modelling with nuclear reactor modelling to analyse feedback.
• Run different load-following scenarios and assess techno-economic feasibility.
• Collaborate with an expert supervisory team and other researchers at TU Delft.
