# PhD in Photonic Integration and Qubit Hardware Development for Quantum ComputingPh.D·Eindhoven University of Technology·Department of Applied Physics and Science Education·NetherlandsPosition type: StudentshipLevel: Ph.DLanguage: English## About the PositionWe are looking for a candidate to drive qubit hardware development and integrated photonics implementation for a Rydberg atom quantum computing platform offering 24/7 access for hybrid quantum computing. The ultracold atom laboratory of CQT, within the Center for Quantum Materials and Technology at Eindhoven University of Technology, develops neutral-atom quantum computing based on Rydberg interactions. The project belongs to the KAT-1 QDNL hybrid quantum computing program, a demonstrator built on Quantum Inspire. Two platforms use rubidium and strontium atoms, optical tweezer arrays for programmable control and single-atom readout, and Rydberg excitation for multi-qubit entanglement. Array reconfiguration, atom shuttling and parallel control support scaling toward fault-tolerant quantum computing. Platforms are built for stable continuous operation and online community access. TU/e also participates in the European Photonics for Quantum Pilot Line, a EUR 50 million initiative funded through Chips JU and national programs to move quantum photonics toward scalable manufacturing. In this consortium of 29 partners, TU/e evaluates photonic chips in its Sapphire strontium neutral-atom platform. The project investigates three complementary chip architectures for single-qubit control, atom imaging and readout, and site-selective Rydberg excitation for two-qubit gates. The candidate will integrate chips, benchmark realistic performance and give developers feedback on scalable-system requirements. Work includes testing advanced photonic chips; developing integrated photonics for control and readout of large atomic-qubit arrays; evaluating architectures for gates and detection; characterizing optical coherence, stability, switching, crosstalk and scalability; translating user requirements into design feedback; and realizing quantum simulations for specific use cases. Collaboration involves PhD candidates, postdocs, quantum engineers, MSc students and PIs in the strontium and rubidium teams, P4Q partners, the University of Amsterdam ultracold strontium laboratory and KAT-1 partners. The candidate joins QT/e, the QDNL Brainport Eindhoven hub and the national quantum research network. Requirements: master's or equivalent university degree in experimental physics, preferably with cold atoms, lasers and optics, integrated photonics or quantum computation experience; research-oriented attitude and affinity for experimental quantum mechanics; interdisciplinary teamwork and## Research Interests* Integrate and test photonic chips in a strontium neutral-atom processor* Develop scalable atomic-qubit control and readout* Evaluate single-qubit and Rydberg-mediated two-qubit operations* Characterize coherence, stability, crosstalk and scalability* Provide photonic-chip design feedback* Realize quantum simulations* Teach and supervise BSc and MSc projects## Required Skills & Qualifications* Master's degree in experimental physics or equivalent* Experimental quantum mechanics* Cold atoms, lasers, optics, integrated photonics or quantum computation experience preferred* Interdisciplinary teamwork and industrial collaboration* Motivation to teach and supervise* B2 spoken and written English
