Job summary

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) invites applications for a PhD position in the Self-driving lab project focusing on photochemical and porosity research. You will help implement automated spectroscopy workflows and AI-driven process optimization.

You will work within the Šolomek, Baumgartner and Noël groups at Science Park, develop flow systems and in situ ATR-UV-Vis spectroscopy, and contribute to publications while pursuing a four-year PhD contract (38 h/week).

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field and hands-on experience building experimental setups.
  • Experience with spectroscopy and measurement of photophysical parameters.
  • Interest in instrument automation and quantitative data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build flow setups using 3D printing, pumps, valves and software.
  • Develop flow cells to connect spectroscopic tools to the setup.
  • Create and validate automated workflows for photophysical measurements.
  • Implement AI methods to optimize parameters and interpret results.
  • Develop in situ ATR-UV-Vis spectroscopy including polarization for film monitoring.
  • Document methods, analyze multidimensional data, and publish findings.
