Job summary

NIOO-KNAW in Wageningen invites applications for a PhD project examining epialleles and their role in heritable variation in wild plants. You will study a diverse dandelion lineage to separate genetic and epigenetic influences on gene expression and explore environmental effects on epiallele origin.

The project combines high-resolution genomic and epigenomic analyses with gene expression profiling, and includes supervision of BSc/MSc students, writing, and dissemination at international venues.

Qualifications

  • Successfully completed MSc in a related field.
  • Excellent data analysis skills for bioinformatics and statistics.
  • Experience in next generation DNA sequence analysis, preferably long-read data.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee DNA methylation, SNP and structural variation analyses across accessions.
  • Perform differential gene expression analyses.
  • Conduct bioinformatic and statistical interpretation of genetic and methylation variation.
  • Assist in greenhouse work for phenotypic analyses.
  • Coordinate with collaborating groups and supervise students.
  • Publish results and present at conferences and in the PhD thesis.
