Job summary

TU Delft is offering a PhD position to decode the microbial nitrogen cycle for climate resilience. You will combine experimental and computational approaches to reveal how nitrogen-cycling microbes shape greenhouse gas emissions and ecosystem dynamics.

The four-year doctoral track includes high-throughput bioreactor work, multi-meta-omics analyses, and mathematical modelling in an interdisciplinary environment at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences.

Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Systems Microbiology, Computational Biology or related field.
  • Laboratory experience and interest in bioreactor design and operation.
  • Independent, self-motivated, curiosity-driven mindset.
  • Strong analytical skills with a scientific mindset and hands-on approach.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experimental and computational studies on nitrogen-cycling microbial communities.
  • Work with high-throughput bioreactor cultivations and multi-omics datasets.
  • Develop and apply mathematical models to understand microbial processes and greenhouse gas emissions.
