Job summary

The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) offers a fully-funded PhD position in ecology under the ASCENT project in the Netherlands. The PhD candidate will quantify biodiversity responses to nitrogen deposition using long-term grassland and forest experiments and link trait data to hyperspectral EO data across scales.

You hold an MSc in ecology or environmental sciences with experience in ecological lab/field work and remote sensing, and you will collaborate across disciplines,

Qualifications

• MSc degree in ecology or environmental sciences.
• Experience in ecological laboratory or field work and in remote sensing.
• Strong learner with interdisciplinary collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

• Quantify responses of Essential Biodiversity Variables to nitrogen deposition in long-term field experiments and landscape gradients.
• Link trait and functional measurements to airborne- or satellite-collected hyperspectral data to assess ecosystem functioning.
• Collaborate with PhDs and postdocs to integrate findings into models and publish in peer-reviewed outlets.
