Job summary

University of Amsterdam invites applications for an outstanding PhD candidate to research probabilistic and extremal combinatorics. The project aims to study phase transitions and related combinatorial problems inspired by physical phenomena.

You will be embedded in the DMQI group at the KdVI under the supervision of Ross Kang, with Carla Groenland (TU Delft) as co-supervisor. The position includes teaching duties and opportunities for collaboration and travel.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in mathematics (or closely related field) required.
  • Strong mathematical maturity and ability to conduct independent research.
  • Fluency in English; Dutch knowledge not required.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with programming or mathematical computation software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research in probabilistic and extremal combinatorics.
  • Formulate and resolve combinatorial challenges within the Combinatorial Condensation programme.
  • Collaborate with the postdoc at TU Delft and with the DMQI group at KdVI.
  • Assist in teaching one course per semester and supervise bachelor or master theses.
