Job summary

Orion Group Life Sciences is seeking a Packaging Engineer for a multinational pharmaceutical/biotechnology client based in Breda. This 12-month contract role is hybrid, requiring onsite presence 3–4 days per week.

You will collaborate with the international packaging team, QA and artwork teams to advance packaging specifications and configurations, acting as a key connector across functions and ensuring changes follow controlled processes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Packaging Engineering or related experience in pharmaceutical packaging.
• Excellent understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
• Strong communication skills in English, written and verbal.
• Ability to work in teams and adapt to a dynamic environment.
• Solid knowledge of packaging materials and secondary/tertiary packaging.

Responsibilities

• Document packaging component specifications and change controls.
• Create, review and approve testing protocols and reports.
• Troubleshoot and lead investigations on packaging component issues.
• Maintain supplier relationships and communicate with cross-functional teams.
• Lead projects on packaging component optimization or new packaging introductions.
• Collaborate with QA, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Validation Engineering.

Role Summary

Currently our client is looking for a packaging engineer that can help them in bringing packaging specifications and configurations to the next level. In this role you will be working closely together with the rest of the (international) packaging team, QA and the artwork team. As you will be a spider in the web, communication and relationship building is key.

Main Responsibilities of the role

• Documenting packaging component specifications, technical reports and change of documentation according to Change Control procedures.
• Creating, reviewing and approving testing protocol and reports as required.
• Assisting in trouble shooting and leading investigation on Packaging Component problems for areas like production, warehouse, incoming inspection (minor and major deviation lead).
• Developing and improving technical contact with existing approved suppliers.
• Leading or contributing to projects related to packaging component optimization or new packaging introductions.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams (i.e. QA, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Equipment Engineering and Validation Engineering).

• Routine activities:

  • Artworks reviews.
  • Packaging material's Technical Drawings reviews and approvals.
  • Creation of Packaging materials specifications.
  • Creation of Packaging Test protocols and reports.
  • Technical assessments.
  • Packaging material qualification (testing).
  • Change Control owner.
  • Minor and Major Deviations owner.
  • RCA (root cause analyses) Packaging SME.
  • Product Complains Packaging SME.
  • Support production with Packaging materials quality issues investigation.
  • Technical BOM management.

Required Qualifications and skills

• A degree in (Packaging) Design, Engineering and/or related professional experience in Pharmaceutical Packaging Engineering.
• Excellent understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Excellent organizational, project management, technical problem solving and communication (written and verbal in English) skills.
• The ability to work in teams and adapt to dynamic environment.

• Good understanding of materials and equipment used in secondary and tertiary (pharmaceutical) packaging industry:

  • Flag/Booklet Labels
  • Cartons
  • Partitions
  • Trays
  • Leaflets
  • Blisters
  • Shippers
  • WIP Packs (work in progress packaging)
  • Shippers and Pallet configurations
• Experienced in creation of packaging materials specifications, including technical layout templates.
• Good understanding of the link between packaging materials specifications, production requirements, artwork requirements, supplier requirements, regulatory requirements, etc.
• Applies analytical skills to evaluate and interpret complex situations and problems.
• Manages multiple assignments and processes.
• Independently determines approach to projects.
• Recognizes and escalates problems.
• Contributes to (project)team by ensuring quality of tasks/services provided by self and others.
• Gives support to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects or activities within own department or project team.
