You will be involved in the missions of the Licensing & Safety team. You will provide licensing support to the PIONEER nuclear demonstrator project in the Netherlands. You will support the development of licensing documents and support regulatory audits and engagements. You will work in close relationship with experts from NRG Pallas, which will be designated to operate PIONEER. You will be in close consultation with Thorizon’s design and engineering staff and will ensure that licensing documents are created in accordance with the guidance of NRG Pallas, following the Thorizon’s licensing strategy. You will provide support for engagements with the Dutch nuclear regulator (ANVS), and other regulatory bodies involved such as FANC and ASNR, including pre-application meetings, preparing and reviewing permit and license applications, preparing and reviewing topical reports, and responding to ANVS audit questions and requests for additional information. You will also provide licensing and strategic support to the development of the commercial reactor.

In this environment, which combines both compliance with regulatory requirements and the development of an innovative reactor, you get the unique opportunity to put your knowledge to the best use, develop your ideas, explore many aspects and play a crucial role in the company's growth.

In this role you will:
  • Contribute to the development of an ambitious and robust licensing strategy for the nuclear demonstrator and the commercial reactor, mitigating regulatory risks.
  • Contribute to draft, author, and review licensing documents including sections of the applications for construction and operation (e.g., PSAR/FSAR and Environmental Report).
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders (Thorizon and NRG Pallas) to prepare responses to ANVS audit questions and requests for additional information.
  • Coordinate with the Thorizon’s design team to ensure designs and design changes meet regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to development of the licensing strategies to support project goals.
  • Participate in promoting the in-house safety-security culture.
  • Participate in promoting internationally the development of a shared framework for Molten Salt Reactors, in the nuclear safety field.
  • Report to the Nuclear Safety Analysis Lead.
  • Actual position level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
About you:
  • Masters's degree in science, engineering or any relevant topic.
  • You have proven experience in nuclear safety analysis, such as hazard or failure analysis, process hazard analysis, accident sequence development.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of regulatory framework and processes, with experience in preparing the required documentation, preferably in the Netherlands (ANVS). Experience with Belgian (FANC) and French (ASNR) regulators is a plus.
  • You are a self-starter with ability to manage deadlines, and you have capability and willingness to adhere to strict quality assurance standards.
  • Experience in the field of innovative reactor safety would be an advantage.
  • You are eager to learn and like challenges.
  • You are creative and innovative: You rethink issues to find practical solutions to difficult problems, and you demonstrate agility by minimising complexity. You have a pragmatic and constructive mindset.
  • You have a good sense of judgement: you think strategically (in your field and taking into account all the dimensions of the project), and you know how to prioritise your actions according to the key issues at stake.
  • You have excellent communication skills: you listen before you react, you are concise, you treat people with respect, you keep calm in stressful situations, you have excellent writing skills.
  • You are an excellent communicator in English and Dutch, both spoken and written. Knowledge of French is a plus.
  • You create impact: your productions are models for your colleagues.
What you can expect from us:
  • The opportunity to help realize the most promising reactor technology and advance Europe's energy future
  • Being part of an exceptional team that combines engineering rigor, scientific excellence, and entrepreneurial drive
  • Working in multidisciplinary teams on ambitious missions, with responsibility and meaningful impact from day one
  • A fast-moving deep-tech environment where initiative is valued and people are trusted to make decisions
