Job summary

Vattenfall is seeking a Cloud Engineer focused on network in Amsterdam to help design, deploy and operate a scalable cloud platform. You will partner with DevOps, security and development teams to enable secure, efficient cloud services and automation.

The role requires a strong network specialization in cloud environments, scripting capability, and the ability to adapt in a fast-changing IT landscape. A collaborative, business-aligned mindset is essential.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a stable cloud platform evolving with organizational needs.
• Design, deploy, and manage cloud-based network architectures (e.g., VPCs, subnets, routing).
• Collaborate with DevOps, security, and development teams to integrate networking solutions.
• Automate network infrastructure provisioning and management using PowerShell, Bicep/Arm.
• Monitor and troubleshoot network performance in cloud environments.
• Design and operate Next Gen Firewall Environments (Check Point).
• Write scripts in PowerShell and Bash.
• Create and maintain automation based on REST.
• Use ARM templates, Bicep, Ansible, DSC for configuration management.
• Troubleshoot OS issues on Windows and Linux.
• Governance: tagging, permissions, naming, policies; support platform audits.
• Understand cloud financial model and advise on cloud consumption.
• Manage and respond to alerts from Azure Security Center; work with IT security.
• Manage Azure DevOps: projects, licenses, backlog handling.

We need to strengthen our cloud operations team with an additional colleague who is driven by technical challenges and the urge to always find better and more efficient ways of delivering services to the customer.

The Digital Platform Operation Team is a multi-competence Team, operating the Vattenfall Digital Platform; this comes with a big variety of tasks to ensure stable cloud systems. Those tasks are governance (ensuring architectural and security compliance), IaaS, PaaS, Network operation, Monitoring support, Azure DevOps support and capacity management. To handle all those different topics we must automate as much as possible and provide self-service functionality.

Your Responsibilities

As our Cloud Engineer your major responsible for ensuring a stable cloud platform which is evolving with the needs of the organization.

Specific Tasks Would Include

• Cloud Networking
  • Understanding Cloud-onPrem connectivity (ExpressRoute, MPLS, BGP)
  • Design, deploy, and manage cloud-based network architectures (e.g., VPCs, subnets, routing, paas specific subnet creation, network Segmentation, private endpoints).
  • Collaborate with DevOps, security, and development teams to integrate networking solutions.
  • Automate network infrastructure provisioning and management using tools like PowerShell, Bicep / Arm.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network performance issues in cloud environments.
  • Knowledge in designing and operating Next Gen Firewall Environments, ideally Check Point.

Your profile

In the role as Cloud Engineer with the focus on Network you will be working in a team that is very close to business but also to Agile IT and Core IT. To succeed in this role it is important that you have the ability to get an T-shaped skill profile. Whereas it is expected you are an expert on Network in Cloud environments. However do also have a basic understanding of OS, Backup, Security, Databases, Web, Azure Paas Services to still be the a generalist we are looking for. So there is not one person dealing e.g. with Network it is the whole team. Since automation is key for our delivery, you are also expected to have the ability to code and/or script. You need to be able to let go of traditional way of working and be open for a fast changing and developing environment.

You are not only an expert technician but you also have social competence and understands the need of the business. You always challenge yourself and others how to improve and develop and are open for suggestions from others but can also give your own.

We are looking for a specialist who is willing to develop to a T-Shaped Cloud Specialist and has a background in network.
