Job description

Healthcare professionals have to spend too much time on administrative tasks when they should be spending that time delivering great care. Attendi allows healthcare professionals to report with their voice. This saves them precious time and removes the screen between client and caregiver, allowing more personal and effective care to be given.

As our Android engineer, you will play a central role in building and scaling Attendi’s native Android app: a voice-powered notepad for healthcare professionals to capture and structure medical data at the point of care.

Healthcare professionals prefer to stay close to their patients, not behind a laptop. As mobile usage in care settings grows, a native Android app becomes essential. That’s why we’re bringing Attendi’s voice-powered functionalities straight to their pocket.

We envision this app as the healthcare sector’s voice-enabled notepad: a flexible, intuitive tool for capturing and structuring medical data quickly and accurately—whether caregivers are at the bedside, in the hallway, or between visits. A thoughtful mobile strategy, seamless UX, and high-performance native Android implementation will be key to realising this vision.

Our mission

Attendi has built a strong user base with its API-first speech-to-text solutions and client SDKs, which are used and loved by healthcare professionals through our integrations with electronic health record (EHR) vendors. Currently, our users primarily interact with our products from within existing EHR systems. But why stop there? We want to give healthcare professionals the ability to benefit from our functionalities whenever and wherever they like.

Your Role

As our Android engineer, you will:

  • Develop and maintain Attendi’s native Android application.
  • Develop and maintain Attendi’s open-source Android microphone SDK (attendi-android).
  • Build high-quality voice recording, transcription, and medical documentation flows for real healthcare workflows.
  • Collaborate with backend engineers, frontend engineers, UX designers, product, and other mobile engineers to ensure smooth development and a cohesive user experience.
  • Take ownership of Android architecture, development quality, testing, CI/CD, Play Store releases, phased rollouts, crash reporting, monitoring, and user feedback.
  • Help shape Android-specific UX decisions using Material Design and platform conventions.
  • Contribute to our open-source efforts where applicable.

You might be a good fit if you:

  • Have at least 5 years of experience.
  • Have strong experience developing native Android applications with Kotlin.
  • Have production experience with Jetpack Compose.
  • Understand Android lifecycle, permissions, foreground services, background execution limits, and platform-specific UX patterns.
  • Have experience with Kotlin coroutines and reactive programming with Flow.
  • Are able to take meaningful ownership of Android features end-to-end.
  • Have a strong user and product-focused mindset, whether that user is an end user of the Attendi App or another developer using our SDKs.
  • Have experience with and a well-formed opinion on testing strategies for Android applications, such as when to use unit tests, integration tests, UI tests, screenshot tests, or other testing strategies.
  • Take pride in building robust, scalable, and maintainable software.
  • Communicate clearly about trade-offs, risks, progress, and technical decisions.
Strong candidates may also
  • Have released at least one Android application to the Google Play Store.
  • Have been involved in the full release lifecycle of an Android app.
  • Have experience with MVVM and Clean Architecture.
  • Have experience designing public APIs or SDKs, including semantic versioning and sample apps.
  • Have experience with audio recording, speech-to-text, offline/network-resilient flows, or privacy-sensitive applications.
  • Have worked in healthcare, regulated, security-sensitive, or high-reliability environments.
  • Have experience with Gradle, modularization, CI quality gates, crash reporting, and monitoring.
  • Have collaborated with iOS engineers or worked on cross-platform product consistency. This is a plus, not a requirement.
What success looks like in three to six months

You will have:

  • Successfully implemented, merged, and released at least two or three medium to large sized features for Attendi’s native Android application.
  • Implemented at least one feature mostly independently, from product input to release.
  • Built a strong understanding of our Android app, Android SDK, voice recording flows, and product domain.
  • Contributed to improving Android architecture, quality, observability, or release processes.
  • Collaborated effectively with product, design, backend, frontend, and mobile stakeholders.
What we offer
  • Salary between €6000 and €8000 per month.
  • Travel and lunch allowance.
  • Home office budget.
  • Lease bike.
  • Training budget of €1,500 per year.
  • Company MacBook.
  • ClassPass membership.
  • Time to learn the Android / iOS platform if not proficient in one of these
  • Working on impactful solutions for problems in healthcare: our solutions directly result in time savings for healthcare professionals, time they can use to deliver better and more personal care.
  • Transparent and responsible personal development: we encourage personal growth by making development plans together and giving the opportunity to follow courses that you feel contribute to your development.
