Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam invites applications for an Assistant Professor in molecular evolution focused on evolutionary adaptation in the Anthropocene. The role combines leading a funded research program with teaching at bachelor and master levels, using approaches like epigenetics, transcriptomics, and functional genetics.

Dutch proficiency is not required, but passive learning is expected within three years.

Qualifications

• PhD in evolutionary biology or related field with postdoctoral experience.
• Proven track record in evolutionary adaptation research to anthropogenic changes.
• Ability to secure external funding and publish in high-impact journals.
• Experience in designing and delivering bachelor and master level courses.

Responsibilities

• Develop a vigorous, largely extramurally funded research program.
• Teach bachelor and master level courses in evolution, ecology, ecotoxicology or related subjects.
• Provide high-quality training and supervision to BSc/MSc students, PhD-students and postdocs.
• Engage in professional development activities related to teaching and academic leadership.
