Job Summary

Processes meat products, fulfills special customer requests; ensures market and seafood cases are kept full, rotates and fresh with prepackaged meats; and promotes customer service.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Process meat by removing fat, tenderizing, grinding, and/or cutting to proper thickness and size.
• Cut, weigh, package, and label products. Use precision and non-precision hand tools and/or instruments to cut or saw unfinished meat products into desired sizes, shapes, and/or weights. Ensure sufficient product is cut and available to customers at all times.
• Clean, assemble, and prepare machinery and equipment for operation, and inspect to ensure proper function. Operate machinery, regulate speed, and stop machinery at precise points indicated.
• Check product for quality control and ensure food safety standards are met. Adhere to governmental product origin labeling. Make judgments about aroma, texture, and color to inspect product for quality.
• Stack pallets and sort product into correct locations according to company efficiency standards.
• Provide friendly, customer-service oriented attitude by greeting customers, answering questions, and fulfilling requests for special cuts of meat. Make suggestions to customers as requested.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary working and shopping environment by adhering to safety procedures.

• Ability to safely work with sharp objects such as knives and box cutters.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain department equipment.
• Ability to use non-precision and precision hand tools.
• Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal form with customers and partners.

• Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to identify potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around the hazard as soon as possible.
• Must report hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.

Education, Experience And Qualifications

• Minimum of 18 years of age required.
• Partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for Company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.
• High school Diploma or GED and one or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
• Food Handler certification required.
