Job summary

Zanders is a leading international consultancy focused on Risk, Treasury and technology. We are seeking a Manager in our Financial Risk team in Utrecht to lead credit risk engagements, build client relationships, and drive model development and validation efforts.

You will write and review production-quality Python, work in Databricks on client data, coach consultants, and contribute to the practice's credit risk knowledge and capabilities.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in econometrics, mathematics, physics, quantitative finance, statistics or related field.
• 5+ years in credit risk model development or validation including PD, LGD, or CCF.
• Ability to lead engagements independently from client contact to deliverable.
• Strong Python programming and Databricks experience.
• Knowledge of IRB, IFRS 9 and stress testing in model design.

Your role

Zanders is an international consultancy specialising in Risk, Treasury and SaaS solutions. From our origins in the Netherlands we now work across Europe, the United States, the Middle East and Asia. Within Risk we cover every financial and non-financial risk type, including ESG and AI, for banks, insurers, lenders and asset managers. As a Manager in our Financial Risk team in Utrecht, you are the person who carries credit risk engagements: the one who can be handed a piece of work and be trusted to land it.

That takes two shapes. On smaller engagements you run the project by yourself, from first client meeting to final deliverable, whether that is a model validation, strategic credit risk support at a lending institution, or an assignment with one of our international clients. On larger model development programmes you take the day-to-day lead of a team of one to three consultants, with a director or partner alongside you.

You stay hands-on. Credit risk modelling at Zanders means writing and reviewing production-quality Python, working in Databricks on client data, and being able to open the code rather than only the documentation. You will also coach consultants on their development beyond the projects they are staffed on, and contribute to how the practice builds its credit risk expertise.

Your background will be in a consultancy specialising in financial risk, or in the model development, model validation or risk management function of a bank or lender.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and validate PD, LGD and CCF models, from data and methodology through to documentation and handover.
• Apply IRB, IFRS 9 and stress testing requirements to concrete model design and validation choices.
• Advise client stakeholders in model development, validation and risk functions as their day-to-day counterpart.
• Own scope, planning and budget on your engagements, escalating early and keeping clients informed.
• Contribute to proposals and scoping conversations, and identify follow-on work with existing clients.
• Build and share credit risk expertise across the practice through internal training, tooling and written material.
• Safeguard a healthy workload within your project team and give clear direction on performance.
• Contribute to internal initiatives that strengthen the Financial Risk practice and the wider One Zanders culture.

Essential

Skills to be successful

• A Master's degree in econometrics, mathematics, physics, quantitative finance, statistics or a related quantitative field.
• 5 or more years of experience in credit risk model development or validation, including PD, LGD or CCF models taken through to completion.
• Proven ability to carry an engagement independently, from client contact through to final deliverable.
• Strong hands-on programming in Python, and experience working in Databricks or a comparable data platform.
• Working knowledge of IRB, IFRS 9 and stress testing requirements and how they translate into model choices.
• Experience guiding the day-to-day work of colleagues on a project, formally or informally.
• Fluent in English.

Also valuable

• SAS, R, MATLAB or SQL alongside Python.
• Interest in developing commercially over time, towards owning proposals and client relationships of your own.
• Experience with supervisory processes such as TRIM missions, IMIs and OSIs.
• Exposure to adjacent risk areas such as IRRBB, liquidity stress testing, ESG risk or model risk management.
• Experience with non-bank lenders or fintech credit portfolios alongside traditional banking clients.
• A relevant professional certification such as FRM or CFA.
• Dutch language proficiency.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for international client work.
