Job summary

Booking.com is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to develop, train, and deploy sophisticated models for fraud detection, personalization, and marketing optimization. You’ll work with ML scientists, software engineers, and product managers to translate business challenges into scalable ML solutions.

You will manage production-grade ML pipelines on Google Cloud, ensure system health and data quality, and contribute to reusable tooling and innovations across teams.

Qualifications

• Strong working knowledge of big data retrieval and processing tools
• Experience running Machine Learning systems in production with high throughput
• Demonstrable experience with large data sets, experimentation, scalability and optimization
• Experience with data-driven product development: analytics, A/B testing, etc
• Willingness to learn and understand complex business problems related to Booking.com operations
• Proactive attitude and ability to act without waiting for instruction
• Experience in a cloud environment is a plus
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
• BSc or higher in Computer Science, AI, Software Engineering, or related fields
• Strong coding skills in at least one language (preferably Python); knowledge of Java is a plus

Responsibilities

• Develop, train, and deploy advanced ML models to tackle fraud detection, personalized recommendations, and promotional optimization

• Work with Google Cloud Platform tooling (BigQuery, DataProc, Cloud Composer, Airflow) to maintain ML infra
• Monitor ML systems health (SLIs/SLOs), data quality, and business impact with mitigation plans
• Contribute to tooling and infrastructure improvements across ML teams
• Keep up-to-date with latest technologies and best practices in ML engineering
• Provide high-quality engineering practices and ensure data security and integrity
• Collaborate across the company to scale and extend ML tooling and infrastructure

• As a Machine Learning Engineer at Booking.com, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the travel experience for millions of users


• Your responsibilities include developing, training, and deploying advanced machine learning models to tackle complex problems such as fraud detection, personalized recommendations, and optimizing promotional campaigns


• You will collaborate closely with machine learning scientists, software engineers, and product managers to translate business challenges into machine learning solutions


• Additionally, you will engage in applied research to innovate and evolve new technologies, contributing to the development of reusable models


• Work in a multi-disciplined, highly skilled team where you will be developing scalable production-grade data and ML pipelines across the entire ML cycle while working closely with the teams’ applied machine learning scientists


• Work primarily with the Google Cloud Platform, utilizing and maintaining the infrastructure for technologies like BigQuery, DataProc, Cloud Composer, Airflow and diverse set of ML frameworks


• Be responsible for SLIs/SLOs for ML systems, ensure system and model health, monitor data quality, performance and business impact, and devise mitigation plans


• Drive a culture of quality for all ML practitioners, maintain data security, integrity and quality, and make choices over the right technologies and coding methodologies


• Identify underlying issues and opportunities across the ML development cycle and introduce tools to be used within and outside the team for efficient development and testing


• Continuously evolve your craft, keeping up to date with the latest technologies


• Collaborate with relevant ML teams across the company to improve, scale and extend machine learning tooling and infrastructure
