Job summary

flatexDEGIRO is seeking a Legal Counsel to act as a trusted advisor across the business, navigating complex legal and regulatory challenges while enabling sustainable growth. You will work with stakeholders to support strategic initiatives and ensure compliance in a fast-paced environment.

The role focuses on regulatory matters in Dutch and EU financial services, drafting and negotiating contracts, and providing practical legal guidance to management and business teams.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Law (LL.M. or equivalent).
• 3-5 years post-qualification experience in a leading law firm or in-house role.
• Strong knowledge of Dutch and EU financial services regulation, banking law, and capital markets.
• Excellent command of English; Dutch language skills are an advantage.

• Monitor and assess legal, regulatory, and industry developments relevant to the firm's activities, translating requirements into practical guidance.
• Serve as a trusted legal advisor to management and business teams across a broad range of matters.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial contracts and legal documentation.
• Advise on regulatory and legal matters relating to financial services, banking, and capital markets.
• Conduct legal research and provide actionable recommendations to support decisions.
• Build relationships with external counsel, regulators, and industry bodies.
• Support corporate governance, contract management, and maintaining legal records.
• Assist with legal proceedings and matters involving seizures, estates, claims and related obligations.
• Represent the firm in negotiations, regulatory interactions, and disputes with clients and authorities.

Your impact as Legal Counsel

• Monitor and assess legal, regulatory, and industry developments relevant to the firm's activities, translating complex requirements into practical business guidance.


• Serve as a trusted legal advisor to management and business teams, providing pragmatic and solution-oriented support across a broad range of matters.


• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a variety of commercial contracts and legal documentation.


• Advise on regulatory and legal matters relating to financial services, banking, and capital markets activities.


• Conduct legal research and provide clear, actionable recommendations to support business decision-making.


• Build and maintain effective relationships with external counsel, regulators, industry bodies, and other key stakeholders.


• Support corporate governance activities, contract management processes, and the maintenance of legal records and documentation.


• Assist with legal proceedings and matters involving seizures, estates, claims and other legal obligations.


• Represent and support the firm in negotiations, disputes, regulatory interactions, and engagements with clients, counterparties, courts, supervisory authorities, and dispute resolution bodies such as Kifid.


• Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes, policies, and compliance frameworks.

What will make you successful in this role?

• Master's degree in Law (LL.M. or equivalent).


• 3-5 years of relevant post-qualification experience gained in a leading law firm and/or as in-house legal counsel, preferably within the financial services sector.


• Strong knowledge of Dutch and EU financial services regulation, banking law, and capital markets legislation.


• Excellent command of English, both written and spoken; Dutch language skills are an advantage.


• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify legal risks and develop practical solutions.


• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage across all levels of the organization.


• Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.


• Proactive, hands-on, and commercially minded approach to problem-solving.


• Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of professional integrity.
