Job summary

Cover Genius seeks a Legal Counsel to support the company’s growth across global transactions. You will collaborate with sales, insurance, compliance, and product teams to apply practical legal advice and identify commercial risks in the European Economic Area.

Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, reviewing vendor contracts, and monitoring regulatory developments will be key. UK/EU law degree and privacy certifications are preferred; AI-enabled workflows are a plus.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in law firm or in-house, preferably in financial services or tech.
• Track record of pragmatic, commercially-led business partnering.
• Law degree from UK or EU university.
• Active privacy certifications (CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, or AIGP).
• Experience scaling privacy operations with legal-tech automation and AI workflows.

Responsibilities

About the Role

As a Legal Counsel on our Legal team, you will support the company’s growing business and provide support as we scale. As a team member of an innovative insurance intermediary involved in transactions across the globe, the Legal Counsel will work cross functionally with the sales, insurance, marketing, compliance, and product teams to apply their expertise and practical advice.

To drive success in this role, you will proactively identify risks, provide practical guidance and support the business in navigating an evolving regulatory environment in the European Economic Area.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including non disclosure agreements, insurance distribution agreements, binding authority agreements, and vendor agreements that support and enable our global business operations.
• Provide clear, actionable, and commercially minded legal advice and counsel to the business on transactional legal matters and proposed corporate actions and projects.
• Triage business requests and appropriately escalae to other Senior Legal Counsels or the VP of Legal
• Conduct legal research and provide clear, practical risk assessments and recommendations.
• Monitor relevant legal developments and assess their impact on the business.
• Support the pragmatic resolution of legal matters.

Skills & Experience

• 2+ years of experience either at a law firm or in-house (or combination thereof), preferably with experience in financial services, fintech, digital or technology-focused environments.
• A track record of pragmatic and commercially-led business partnering.
• Law degree from an accredited university in the United Kingdom or a European Union country.
• Active privacy certifications strongly preferred: CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, or the IAPP Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) credential.
• Experience scaling privacy operations through legal-tech automation and AI-enabled workflows.
• Practical, daily experience leveraging generative AI platforms (e.g., Claude, Gemini or custom LLMs) to streamline legal workflows. Proven ability to craft structured legal prompts for contract review, regulatory research, and data mapping, while rigorously validating AI outputs for accuracy and compliance

• A demonstrated ability to drive execution in a team environment, integrating legal advice and business knowledge while providing balanced and pragmatic advice regarding risks and benefits
• Able to see the bigger picture and balance legal risk with commercial objectives.
• Curiosity and a willingness to expand your practice and explore new areas of the law, including corporate law, privacy law, insurance law and ICT law .
