Job summary

Erasmus School of Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam seeks a lecturer/researcher for a six-year position within the Department of Law & Markets. The role combines 60% teaching with 40% PhD research on private-law liability of European ports in the digital transition, starting 1 January 2027.

The successful candidate will teach in the master’s programme in Commercial Law and contribute to the Law & Markets teaching portfolio, with supervision and course development responsibilities aligned to

Qualifications

completed, or close to completing, an LL.M. or equivalent master’s degree in law with a strong academic record
clear potential for academic research
strong interest in private law, commercial law, maritime or transport law and ability to connect these with EU law, public law and digital regulation
attitude and motivation to teach and supervise students within Law & Markets
proficient in written and spoken English (C1)
proficient in written and spoken Dutch; at least B2 level in Dutch and willing to reach required level within the first year
works independently, accurately and collegially and can combine long-term research with teaching responsibilities

Responsibilities

teach and supervise students within Law & Markets
contribute to master’s programme in Commercial Law
balance 60% teaching with 40% research
coordinate courses and assist with thesis supervision
conduct doctrinal legal research at the intersection of private, commercial and maritime law
