Job description

We’re looking for a (jr) Commercial Manager – CBAM who combines financial acumen with an entrepreneurial mindset. You’ll take ownership of how CarbonLeap develops, structures, and commercializes CBAM-related financial products.

You’ll translate complex EU CBAM regulation into actionable business opportunities; building the commercial, operational, and product foundations that allow our clients to stay compliant, hedge risk, and capture value in the emerging CBAM market.

You’ll work closely with our Business Development Manager, (Senior) Commercial Managers and Head of Trading to bring new products to market and build strong client relationships across regulated industries.

This role is ideal for someone early in their career who moves fast, thinks commercially, and wants to learn how financial markets can drive climate action.

Key Responsibilities
1. CBAM Product Development
  • Collaborate with existing CBAM hedging providers and work to design and launch CBAM financial instruments, including EUA‑linked hedge structures and advisory solutions.
  • Connect CBAM products to broader carbon market mechanisms.
  • Oversee the product lifecycle, including validation, market testing, and performance optimization.
2. Commercial Strategy & Market Operations
  • Analyze CBAM market trends, client needs, and price developments.
  • Identify new revenue opportunities and translate client needs into actionable product offerings.
  • Collaborate with Business Development and commercial Managers to maximize commercial opportunities.
3. Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure all CBAM products comply with EU CBAM and ETS regulations and internal governance standards.
  • Assess and manage financial exposure and risks associated with CBAM products.
  • Develop clear reporting frameworks for internal management and external regulators.
4. Stakeholder Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and other relevant external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure seamless product delivery.
  • Represent CarbonLeap in external discussions and industry networks focused on CBAM implementation.
5. Innovation & Market Positioning
  • Initiate and drive the expansion of CarbonLeap's CBAM‑compliance service into new areas of the CBAM value chain.
  • Help position CarbonLeap as a trusted partner and thought leader in the CBAM and CO₂ financial markets.
About You

You are a structured, proactive, and commercially minded professional with a strong interest in sustainability and climate impact. You’re motivated by the opportunity to help industries transition toward a low‑carbon future and curious about how financial tools can accelerate that change. You thrive in environments where learning, collaboration, and initiative drive meaningful results.

  • 0–2 years of experience in sustainability, finance, consulting, or related fields (internships or thesis projects welcome)
  • Strong analytical ability to translate complex sustainability or policy topics into actionable business insights
  • Genuine interest in carbon markets, EU climate policy, or the economics of decarbonization (CBAM or ETS exposure a plus)
  • Understanding of basic financial concepts such as pricing, risk, or hedging
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks with structure and attention to detail
  • Comfortable conducting research and contributing to product and market development
  • Skilled communicator, able to articulate complex ideas clearly in English (Dutch a plus)
  • Collaborative and eager to learn from experienced team members while taking ownership of your work
  • Entrepreneurial and hands‑on: you take initiative and enjoy turning ideas into tangible outcomes
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑moving, evolving sustainability market
  • Curious, ambitious, and driven to contribute to Europe’s low‑carbon transition
