Job summary

Monks is seeking a Dutch-speaking Backend Developer to build, optimise, and maintain server-side Java applications for diverse clients. You will work with front-end developers, data analysts, and product stakeholders to deliver scalable backend solutions.

You will use Java core concepts, Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, and RESTful APIs, while focusing on performance, security, and reliability. Collaboration with QA, DevOps, and cross-functional teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Citizenship & language: Dutch citizenship and fluency in Dutch required.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or higher.
• Java expertise: Strong Java development skills, core concepts, concurrency, JVM internals.
• Frameworks & APIs: Spring Boot, Spring Data, Hibernate/JPA, RESTful API design/implementation.
• Databases: SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis).
• Core tech: Maven/Gradle, Git. Ability to adapt to new languages.
• Versatility: Backend experience across languages and stacks; agile environment.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain high-performance, server-side Java logic.
• Collaborate with front-end developers to integrate interfaces with back-end services.
• Design and implement APIs and RESTful services.
• Set up, maintain, and optimize databases.
• Improve performance, scalability, and security of applications.
• Identify and fix bugs and bottlenecks.
• Write clean, scalable Java code following best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold coding standards.
• Partner with QA, DevOps, and Product Management to deliver robust apps.
• Maintain technical and API documentation.
