Genmab in Utrecht, Netherlands seeks a Master’s student for a mass spectrometry internship focused on improving MS data quality for antibody research. The project combines data review with follow-up experiments to understand when issues first appeared and how they evolve across formats.
You will work with the supervisor to design experiments, analyze results, and contribute to method development. Your role includes planning experiments, documenting methods, and presenting progress to the team.
At Genmab, we are dedicated to building extra[not]ordinary® futures, together, by developing antibody products and groundbreaking, knock-your-socks-off KYSO antibody medicines® that change lives and the future of cancer treatment and serious diseases. We strive to create, champion and maintain a global workplace where individuals’ unique contributions are valued and drive innovative solutions to meet the needs of our patients, care partners, families and employees.
Our people are compassionate, candid, and purposeful, and our business is innovative and rooted in science. We believe that being proudly authentic and determined to be our best is essential to fulfilling our purpose. Yes, our work is incredibly serious and impactful, but we have big ambitions, bring a ton of care to pursuing them, and have a lot of fun while doing so.
Does this inspire you and feel like a fit? Then we would love to have you join us!
What can mass spectrometry data reveal about different antibody formats? And when an unexpected analytical result appears, how do you investigate where it started and what might explain it?
We are looking for a Master’s student with practical mass spectrometry experience to join a research project focused on improving the MS data quality in general and for protein characterization. This internship offers the opportunity to deepen your analytical skills while investigating a real scientific question within antibody research.
Your project will combine reviewing existing data with planning and carrying out follow-up experiments. You will investigate whether historical results reveal when an observed issue first emerged, identify patterns or changes over time, and develop hypotheses to explore further. This hypothesis will then be tested experimentally in the laboratory to finally obtain improved data quality in general or only for certain formats. Using mass spectrometry and relevant data analysis tools, including deconvolution software, you will help build a clearer understanding of the findings across different antibody formats.
Together with your supervisor and the team, you will refine the research question and agree on a feasible project plan aligned with your university’s learning objectives. We are looking for someone who is ready to take an active role in shaping their approach: reviewing the available evidence, proposing next steps, and organizing their experimental work!
Please submit your CV and motivation letter. Tell us what interests you about this project, what you hope to learn, and describe your practical experience with mass spectrometry. We would particularly like to hear about your own contribution to a previous research project and how you approached an unexpected result or scientific challenge.
