Job summary

Rabobank is seeking a Data Scientist (GenAI / Chatbot) in Utrecht to enhance chatbot quality and effectiveness. You will work across data, engineering and product, investigating chatbot behaviour, identifying weaknesses and implementing improvements.

Focus areas include retrieval, generation, reasoning loops, tool calling and related GenAI capabilities. You will collaborate with product managers and engineers to define evaluation criteria and translate insights into concrete solutions.

Qualifications

• Analytical mindset with focus on AI system behaviour.
• Strong understanding of GenAI and LLM-based applications.
• Experience with retrieval-augmented systems and grounding techniques.
• Familiarity with prompts, context windows and retrieval.
• Ability to evaluate output quality and explain effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Analyse chatbot outputs and identify improvements with the greatest impact.
• Diagnose context gaps and determine what additional information agents need.
• Work with product managers and engineers to define criteria for evaluating agent performance.
• Partner with use-case teams and stakeholders to understand real-world scenarios and turn feedback into improvements.
• Improve retrieval mechanisms, data structuring and contextual sourcing onboarding.
• Design evaluation frameworks for rapid, large-scale experimentation and continuous innovation.
• Translate functional requirements into actionable technical improvements.
