Job summary

Spectrum, a project housed within JetBrains' startup incubator, Amsterdam-based but connected to a global setup, seeks a founding ML Engineer to shape the AI/ML stack. You will own data ingestion, knowledge extraction, retrieval, and reasoning systems that power our living knowledge layer for software development.

We expect a proven ML/AI lead with 5+ years in ML/AI, strong Python and API deployment experience, and the ability to define a research agenda with JetBrains Research.

Qualifications

• Five+ years in ML/AI, with leadership responsibilities.
• Deep understanding of LLM ecosystems and architectures.
• Hands-on with prompt engineering, pipelines, evaluation.
• Experience deploying and scaling LLM-powered apps via APIs or open-source models.

Responsibilities

• Design and build ML/LLM data ingestion, knowledge extraction and retrieval systems.
• Create datasets, metrics and pipelines for system improvements.
• Architect agents for context retrieval, data alignment and inference optimization.
• Establish MLOps practices including orchestration, observability and experiment tracking.
• Collaborate with engineering and JetBrains Research on design and research agenda.
• Define hiring criteria and help grow the ML team.
