Job description

  • Compensation: EUR 5500 - EUR 7500 - monthly
Company Description

TOPdesk builds service management software used across education, healthcare, government, and manufacturing. We are 800+ colleagues in 11 offices worldwide. Founded over 30 years ago, we serve more than 10 million users worldwide and have been helping organisations deliver better services ever since.

We are an open, collaborative organisation with little hierarchy — people own their work end to end and are trusted to make the decisions that matter. We are reinventing ITSM and ESM for the agentic era, building AI agents our customers can trust, and this role is part of that.

Job Description

About the role

Our SaaS hosting and technology costs are increasingly distributed across cloud, licensing, on-premises infrastructure, and shared services. As the landscape grows, so does the need for transparency, accountability, and financial governance — and we want to move from reactive cost management to a proactive, data-driven one.

As FinOps Engineer, you bridge the gap between technology and finance. The remit is broader than classic cloud FinOps: it spans cloud economics and wider technology spend, SaaS and licensing, software asset management, budgeting and forecasting, allocation and showback or chargeback, vendor and renewal insight, and optimisation governance. You create transparency in technology spending, improve financial predictability, and help teams make cost-aware decisions — turning complex consumption data into insight and action so our technology investments deliver maximum value.

What this is not: A pure reporting or bookkeeping role. You do not just present the numbers — you own the models behind them, chase the cost drivers, and drive the optimisation initiatives that follow.

What you'll own

Technology budgeting, forecasting, and spend governance across cloud, SaaS, software licensing, infrastructure, and managed services.

Tracking actual spend against budgets, explaining cost drivers and variances, and proactively flagging financial risks and unexpected increases.

Cost allocation and financial-transparency models — showback and chargeback, plus ownership, tagging, and allocation standards.

Visibility into technology consumption and spend through dashboards, reporting, and financial insight.

Cost-optimisation initiatives across cloud platforms, SaaS, software licensing, and on-premises infrastructure.

Software asset management — license utilisation, renewals, compliance, and vendor-audit readiness.

Financial analysis that supports vendor reviews, renewal planning, and commercial discussions.

Regular cost reviews with stakeholders, and continuous improvement of technology financial governance.

How you'll work

You are comfortable with both engineers and Finance professionals, and adapt how you communicate to each audience.

You build reliable analytical and governance mechanisms — not just reports: SQL and data analysis, cost-data pipelines, API and data integration, dashboards and semantic models, anomaly detection, automated allocation, and policy or control automation for repeatable optimisation.

You use Claude and agents concretely — to analyse consumption and billing data, detect anomalies, explain cost drivers, model scenarios, analyse licensing and contracts, generate optimisation recommendations for validation, and automate recurring cost-governance workflows. Recommendations stay reviewable, and Finance and technology leaders retain accountability for material financial decisions.

You are proactive: you investigate unusual spending patterns before they become problems, identify the affected stakeholdersand help them get the spend back on track.

You balance cost optimisation with business needs, reliability, security, and operational requirements.

You bring structure, ownership, and transparency to complex environments.

Success in your first six months

Technology spend is visible, reconciled with budget, understandable, and allocated.

Forecasts are reliable and financial surprises are minimised.

Stakeholders routinely use your reporting and insight to make better decisions.

Cost-optimisation opportunities are identified, prioritised, and delivered.

Software licensing and SaaS spend are actively governed and optimised.

Technology leaders and Finance trust the quality of financial reporting and forecasts.

Technical environment

Cloud:Azure at multi-tenant SaaS scale, including single-tenant components and virtual appliance (on premises) version; Azure Cost Management and comparable tooling.

Spend surface:cloud, SaaS, software licensing, on-premises infrastructure, and managed services.

Mechanisms you build:SQL and cost-data pipelines, API integrations, dashboards and semantic models, anomaly detection, and automated allocation and cost-governance workflows.

How we work:Claude and agents applied concretely to consumption, billing, and contract data — analysing drivers, modelling scenarios, and generating optimisation recommendations for human validation.

Qualifications

Required

3+ years in FinOps, IT Financial Management, Technology Asset Management, or Technology Finance.

Experience with budgeting, forecasting, analysis, financial reporting, and cost allocation.

A good understanding of cloud platforms and cloud pricing models.

Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into actionable insight.

Hands-on data skills — SQL or comparable data analysis — and comfort building repeatable analytical or reporting mechanisms rather than one-off spreadsheets.

Experience working with multiple stakeholders across technology and business functions.

Able to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) and/or FinOps Certified Engineer (FCE).

Experience with tools such as Azure Cost Management, Archera, or similar.

Knowledge of software asset management and licensing models.

Experience supporting vendor management and contract-renewal processes.
