Job summary

VIDA Bioenergy in Breda, Netherlands, seeks an experienced Financial Controller to lead financial accounting, governance, and reporting within a growing, international energy company. You will partner with senior leadership across the Netherlands and the UK, strengthen internal controls, and support budgeting, forecasting, and compliance.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Financial Reporting & Accounting: close monthly/annual books and prepare financial statements.
• Financial Analysis, Planning & Performance: review results, support budgeting/forecasting, provide KPI insights.
• Audit, Tax & Compliance: coordinate external audit activities and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Internal Control Framework: lead development and ongoing improvement of internal controls.
• Business Partnering: collaborate with operations and projects to support decision-making.

The Financial Controller fulfils a dual role within VIDA, combining financial accounting responsibilities with ownership of key financial governance activities. On the one hand, the role is responsible for managing and analyzing financial records, preparing accurate financial reports, and supporting budgeting and forecasting activities. On the other hand, the role is responsible for overseeing and continuously improving the internal control framework, ensuring its effective design, implementation, and consistent adherence across the organization. Working closely with stakeholders across the business, the Financial Controller plays a key role in strengthening the control environment, improving key business processes, and driving compliance with company policies, delegated authorities, and internal control requirements.

VIDA Bioenergy is a new company and the successful candidate in this role will need to enjoy the dynamics of a growing and developing company and utilize its professional and team-playing skills to support this business growth in a structured and fit-for-purpose manner.

The Financial Controller will report directly to the Sr. Controller and work closely with the CFO, as well as with operations and administration teams across VIDA's RNG plants in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

What you’ll do

Financial Operations

• Financial Reporting & Accounting: Manage the month-end and year-end closing process, maintain accurate financial records and balance sheet reconciliations, and ensure timely financial reporting, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, ESG reporting, and statutory financial statements.
• Financial Analysis, Planning & Performance: Analyse financial results and key performance indicators, provide insight into risks and opportunities, and support budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.
• Audit, Tax & Compliance: Coordinate external audit activities, support annual report preparation, and work closely with tax specialists to ensure compliance with tax, accounting, and regulatory requirements.

Financial Governance & Internal Controls

• Internal Control Framework: Lead the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of VIDA's internal control framework, helping to shape a strong control culture across a rapidly growing international business.
• Financial Governance & Process Improvement: Strengthen the overall control environment by coordinating and continuously improving key financial processes, driving compliance with company policies, delegated authorities, accounting policies, and internal control requirements.

Leadership & Business Partnering

• Guiding and Mentoring: Support the development of junior team members, provide guidance on accounting best practices, and help resolve accounting, reporting, and control-related matters.
• Business Partnering: Collaborate with operations, project teams, and other stakeholders to strengthen financial governance and support business decision-making.

What we’re looking for

• Master degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in accounting, financial control, or external audit.
• Strong analytical skills and high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Proficient using tools and systems such as Excel, Oracle Fusion, Power BI.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Dutch.
• Strong knowledge of accounting standards, financial reporting, and internal control frameworks, with a solid understanding of governance, tax, and regulatory compliance requirements.
