Job summary

Farmless is an Amsterdam‑based biotech startup building a fermentation platform to produce protein compounds efficiently. This internship focuses on mechanistic modelling, Bayesian inference, and designing experiments that justify expensive plant runs.

You will work with fermentation scientists to translate data into actionable process insights and contribute to end‑to‑end modelling efforts from first principles.

Qualifications

• You model from first principles and think in process terms.
• Recognize uncertainty, priors, and experimental design.
• Experience handling real, messy data that is costly to obtain.
• Strong Python and scientific computing mindset.

Responsibilities

• Build a soft sensor to estimate biomass and product concentration from online signals.
• Develop mechanistic/data-driven models of the organism.
• Design and propose experiments when runs are expensive and time-consuming.
