Job description

At Canon Production Printing, you will work in an industrial environment where most consumables and expendables are produced in-house across diverse factories in Venlo. The factories are in different technical and economic life phases, from ink and printhead factories focused on upscaling and expanding functionality to toner and OPC plants where continuity and cost-efficiency are key. This creates a wide range of technical challenges and opportunities for impact.

Your job

As an Equipment Engineer you will work on a wide range of projects in multidisciplinary teams. You are responsible for the realization and optimization of parts of our plants. You take end-to-end responsibility for the Equipment Creation Process, which goes from customer advice and specification, through design and realization, to commissioning and transfer to the maintenance organization.

You will also support operations. You will work intensively together within our internal teams and manage the outsourcing of the design and realization of equipment within our CAPEX supply base. Based on your professionalism, organizational ability and strong communication skills, you will ensure successful project completion and commissioning according to agreements, costs and schedule.

Besides intensive cooperation with equipment suppliers, you also work closely with fellow Equipment Engineers, Production Engineers, Quality Engineers, Purchasing, R&D, Facility Services and colleagues from the maintenance department. You identify possible risks and problems in time and, together with the colleagues involved, look for smart and structural solutions. As part of your work you have an eye for safety and environment and you work according to the Canon standards.

You have demonstrable skills in applying the Machinery Directive, ATEX and CE marking. You are trained to work safely in an industrial environment and preferably have a valid VCA-VOL certificate.

Who you’ll work with

You’ll join our Equipment Engineering & Technical Services (EE&TS) Department — over 60 passionate professionals responsible for the design, implementation and management of production equipment. Our production factories are fitted with highly automated manufacturing equipment optimized to consistently deliver high-quality products while minimizing waste.

What you bring

We are looking for someone who takes initiative, is solution-oriented, and has analytical and critical thinking skills. You are strong in planning and organizing your work and are a driven networker who can maintain contact with various internal and external stakeholders. Furthermore, you recognize yourself in the following job requirements:

  • Bachelor or master degree in a technical area, for example Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics
  • Experience and/or affinity with process technology and process installations

  • Good command of the English language; Dutch is a nice to have
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in machine building or industrial production/process environments, supplemented with experience of working in projects
  • Preferably experience in a multidisciplinary work environment, including designing and implementing advanced equipment
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to suppliers within and outside The Netherlands
Mechanical Engineering requirements
  • Design mechanical installations and constructions
  • Translate functional requirements into conceptual equipment designs
  • Verify mechanical strength calculations
  • Read, analyze, and adjust technical drawings and P&IDs
  • Apply general knowledge of process and production machinery, including mechanical–automation integration
  • Understand the full equipment lifecycle
