Job summary

Qualifications

• Experience as Embedded/Firmware Engineer with strong C++ skills.
• Proficiency with ARM-based microcontrollers and embedded platforms.
• Experience with RTOS, embedded Linux, or bare-metal development.
• Familiarity with CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet protocols.
• Experience with debugging and development tools (GDB, JTAG, CMake).

Freelance Embedded Software Engineer – C++

We are currently looking for an experienced Freelance Embedded Software Engineer with a strong focus on modern C++ to support a client in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

You will be responsible for developing and optimising embedded software, working closely with hardware and software engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions.

Responsibilities

• Developing and maintaining embedded software using modern C++
• Designing software for embedded platforms and microcontrollers
• Integrating software with hardware components and peripherals
• Debugging, testing and optimising software performance
• Working with real-time systems and hardware communication interfaces
• Collaborating with engineering teams on software architecture and implementation

Requirements

• Strong experience as an Embedded Software Engineer or Firmware Engineer
• Proficiency in modern C++
• Experience with embedded systems, firmware and low-level programming
• Knowledge of ARM-based architectures and microcontrollers
• Experience with RTOS, embedded Linux or bare-metal development
• Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, I²C, UART or Ethernet
• Experience with debugging and development tools such as GDB, JTAG and CMake
• Knowledge of multithreading, concurrency, memory management and real-time constraints
• Experience with Git and automated testing practices
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
