Job summary

Organon is seeking an EHS compliance engineer within the Quality Control department to advance safety, health, and environmental standards across the site. You will develop and implement the annual SHE plan, lead investigations, and ensure regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement with IPS methods.

You will collaborate with production teams and SHE specialists to promote a safety-first culture, covering machine safety, ergonomics, hazardous substances, PPE, and related topics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical, biopharmaceutical, or safety-related discipline.
  • HVK Advanced Safety Engineering is preferred; completion may be part of the role.
  • Minimum 5 years of SHE experience, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Safety, GMP, and Lean principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; capable of incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize in a dynamic environment.

  • Lead incident investigations with on-site assessment and root cause analysis.
  • Participate in projects as a SHE knowledge expert; ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Train, coach, and support employees on SHE requirements.
  • Monitor SHE performance through KPIs and drive improvement actions.
  • Represent the department during audits, inspections, and regulatory visits.

Job Description EHS compliance engineer (Quality Control department)

Purpose of the role As a SHE Compliance Engineer, you support the CoE Quality department by driving safety, health, and environmental compliance. You develop and implement the annual SHE plan, conduct risk assessments and incident investigations, and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented. In addition, you advise on regulatory compliance, support investment projects, and represent the department during audits and inspections.

You work closely with production teams and SHE specialists across the site to promote a strong safety culture. The role covers a broad range of SHE topics, including process and machine safety, ergonomics, hazardous substances, PPE, and organizational safety improvement, helping to embed a safety-first mindset throughout the organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement the annual Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) plan in collaboration with stakeholders, including the SHE Director, department managers, and SHE specialists.
  • Act as the department’s SHE subject matter expert, providing advice, support, and guidance on topics such as machine safety, industrial hygiene, work permits, hazardous substances, ergonomics, PPE, and PMSG-related items.
  • Conduct risk assessments (e.g., RI&E) and identify opportunities to improve safety, environmental performance, and sustainability within the department.
  • Maintain and continuously improve SHE processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives using IPS methodologies.
  • Lead incident investigations, including immediate on-site assessments, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Participate in projects as a SHE knowledge expert, ensuring regulatory compliance and anticipating future legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Train, coach, and support employees to ensure awareness of SHE requirements and compliance with internal standards and regulations.
  • Monitor SHE performance through reporting and key performance indicators, and initiate improvement actions where required.
  • Represent the department during internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory visits, ensuring timely follow-up of observations and findings.
  • Participate in the SHE on-call duty roster for SHE-related incidents and unannounced audits (approximately one week every two months).
Your profile:
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical, biopharmaceutical, or safety-related discipline; a diploma in Advanced Safety Engineering (Hogere Veiligheidskunde/ HVK) is preferred.
  • If not yet obtained, completion of this qualification will be part of the role.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) role, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in operational environments and strong knowledge of Safety, GMP, and Lean principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and effectively prioritize activities in a dynamic environment.
  • Broad understanding of SHE-related topics and the ability to quickly adapt to diverse safety challenges.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a strong drive for Lean improvement and process simplification.
  • Holistic thinking skills, enabling balanced decision-making and prioritization across multiple stakeholders and objectives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Dutch and English.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels of the organization.
