Job description

Introduction to the job

At ASML, the ability to connect requirements, system architectures, engineering designs, verification data, and integration outcomes through a coherent digital thread is becoming increasingly important to successfully develop the next generation of lithography systems.

As Domain Architect Systems Engineering & Systems Integration, you will define the technology direction and architectural roadmap for one of ASML's most strategic Engineering IT domains. You will shape how digital capabilities support modern Systems Engineering practices, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and end-to-end engineering traceability across the product lifecycle.

Working as the architectural counterpart to the Domain Owner, you will help business and IT jointly define future capabilities, challenge assumptions where needed, and drive balanced decisions that create sustainable long-term value. You will play a key role in ensuring that today's delivery priorities and tomorrow's technology ambitions evolve through a shared roadmap.

This position is ideal for a technically strong architect who enjoys combining strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, digital engineering expertise, and hands-on architectural leadership.

Please note that this is an Engineering IT leadership role. The mission is to deliver and evolve the digital tools, data, integrations, and business capabilities that support Systems Engineering and Systems Integration at ASML. The role is not focused on executing Systems Engineering activities, but on enabling them through technology.

Role and responsibilities

Architecture Strategy & Roadmap

  • Own the architecture vision, target state, and multi-year roadmap for the Systems Engineering & Systems Integration domain.
  • Translate business ambitions, engineering needs, and technology opportunities into a coherent architectural direction.
  • Define transition roadmaps that balance innovation, technical sustainability, business value, and delivery feasibility.
  • Continuously evaluate industry developments and emerging technologies in Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, AI, MBSE, and engineering data management.

Digital Thread Architecture

  • Define and evolve the architecture supporting ASML's engineering digital thread from requirements through system definition, verification, validation, and integration.
  • Drive end-to-end traceability, information consistency, and integration across engineering platforms and data domains.
  • Ensure architecture supports scalability, performance, usability, security, and long-term maintainability.
  • Help shape the future digital engineering ecosystem supporting increasingly complex product development.

Business and Technology Partnership

  • Act as a trusted architecture partner to senior business stakeholders, engineering leaders, and product teams.
  • Operate at a level playing field with business counterparts to jointly define future-state capabilities and roadmaps.
  • Constructively challenge business requests, technology proposals, and architectural decisions when necessary to drive better outcomes.
  • Facilitate informed discussions around trade-offs, priorities, technical debt, platform strategy, and investment decisions.
  • Build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups while maintaining architectural integrity.

Architecture Governance

  • Act as the primary architectural authority for the domain.
  • Define architecture principles, standards, reference architectures, and design guardrails.
  • Review and govern solution designs, major investments, platform choices, and architectural exceptions.
  • Ensure alignment with Enterprise Architecture, Cybersecurity, Data & AI, and broader DTS technology standards.

Delivery Support & Technology Leadership

  • Partner with the Domain Owner to ensure execution remains aligned with the architectural vision.
  • Support delivery teams in resolving complex technical challenges and architectural decisions.
  • Guide implementation teams on architecture patterns, integration strategies, and technology choices.
  • Ensure architecture is practical, executable, and delivers measurable business value.

Community Leadership

  • Contribute to the growth and maturity of the DTS architecture community.
  • Coach technical leads and engineering teams.
  • Foster engineering excellence, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.
  • Influence architectural practices beyond the immediate domain through collaboration and thought leadership.
Education and experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 8-12 years of relevant experience in architecture, engineering IT, digital engineering, enterprise applications, or complex technology environments.
  • Proven experience defining architecture strategies and technology roadmaps.
  • Experience working with engineering-intensive organizations and complex stakeholder landscapes.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders without formal authority.
  • Experience balancing short-term business needs with long-term platform sustainability.
  • Experience with engineering platforms such as Polarion, Teamcenter, Capella, or comparable engineering tool environments is considered a strong advantage.
  • Experience with integration architectures, data models, APIs, cloud technologies, and enterprise software ecosystems.
  • Experience supporting product development, systems engineering, or digital thread initiatives is highly desirable.
Skills

  • Ability to operate as an equal partner to senior business stakeholders.
  • Confidence to challenge established viewpoints, assumptions, and requirements constructively.
  • Ability to facilitate difficult conversations and navigate competing interests.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to create alignment without compromising architectural integrity.

Engineering Domain Knowledge

  • Good understanding of Systems Engineering and Digital Engineering concepts.
  • Familiarity with requirements management, traceability, architecture modeling, verification, validation, and integration processes.
