Job summary

Delft University of Technology, in collaboration with CropXR, is seeking a Data Steward with a strong affinity for plant research, sequencing and phenotyping data. You will work closely with researchers to ensure research data is well organized, understandable, findable and reusable.

Qualifications

• MSc or equivalent in a relevant field such as plant sciences, biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, genetics, computational biology, data science or related discipline.
• Good understanding of how biological data are generated and used.
• Ability to communicate with researchers and technical teams; not required to develop pipelines.
• Familiarity with metadata, FAIR data principles and data repositories; willingness to learn.
• Some scripting experience (Python, R, CLI, JSON, CSV, APIs) is useful.

Responsibilities

• Bridge between research, data and CropXR data infrastructure.
• Support researchers with data management throughout the lifecycle from design to reuse.
• Work with sequencing and phenotyping data including sample/material information and files such as FASTQ, BAM and VCF.
• Help researchers describe experiments and datasets using MIAPPE, ISA and CropXR metadata procedures.
• Promote FAIR data practices by organizing, naming, identifying, versioning and documenting data.
• Review datasets with researchers and advise on formats, repositories and access conditions.
• Prepare and connect datasets for the CropXR Resilience Hub and contribute to data-management guidelines.
