ABN AMRO Bank N.V. is seeking a Data Scientist for its Transaction Banking Data Domain.

You will work in an autonomous, cross-functional team to explore data-driven opportunities, build AI solutions, and collaborate with ML Engineers, Data Engineers, and Business stakeholders across the Netherlands and India. The role emphasizes experimentation, continuous improvement, and strong storytelling, with a focus on advancing analytics maturity while leveraging Databricks and cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Degree in STEM or economics/business with an analytics focus.
• 6-8 years of work experience with at least 3 years in data science.
• Proficiency in Python, PySpark, SQL and coding best practices.
• Experience with ML and AI (Forecasting, Prediction, Cluster Analysis, Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, Document processing, AI Agents).
• English and Dutch communication skills.

We are the Advanced Analytics and AI Center of Expertise (AA&AI CoE), part of the Transaction Banking Data Domain and our purpose is to Drive Excellence Through Transaction Banking Data. Our value stream covers a vast portfolio of products: accounts, payment cards, packages, savings, insurances, open banking APIs, trade finance, digital products like Apple Pay/ Google Pay, and associated sales, business & risk management processes. We contribute significantly to the revenue of the bank by strengthening data driven decision making.

We apply advanced analytics and emerging technologies (like GenAI) to explore, research and gather valuable insights; predict and forecast trends of product’s usage and transactions; optimize processes; define, report & monitor and improve performance ; advise on new proposition designs and duty of care topics; help decide the course of action and setting priorities to achieve great customer satisfaction and vendor relations. We also act as change agents to embed a data driven mindset at all levels of the organization enabling them to harness full potential of the data that we have, thereby strengthening data maturity and literacy in the bank. All our Data Scientists that work within AA&AI CoE have T-shaped profiles and next to data science they can play different roles like: Subject Matter Experts, Business Liaisons etc.

Your job

In your role as a Data Scientist, you will:

• Drive Advanced Analytics & AI innovation by developing use cases leveraging emerging technologies, fostering a culture of experimentation, innovation, and continuous improvement
• Design and develop AI solutions (Machine Learning, Generative AI, AI Agents) in close collaboration with ML Engineers, AI Architects, Data Engineers, and Data Analysts
• Translate business challenges into data questions, understand underlying processes for various products & services, identifying the right analytic techniques, and connect the dots
• Lead and contribute to projects end-to-end, balancing individual ownership with cross-functional collaboration, delivering value incrementally
• Conduct data exploration and experimentation across diverse datasets (products, transactions, channels, customers, CRM/sales) to generate insights
• Act as a data sparring partner with business stakeholders on smart KPIs & reports, with relevant insights for the right audience
• Communicate insights effectively through structured storytelling, clear visualizations, and well-organized work practices
• Engage and guide non-technical stakeholders and team members on Advanced Analytics cases while managing diverse collaborators across multidisciplinary teams
• Stay current and curious about trends in advanced analytics, GenAI, and cloud platforms (e.g., Databricks), continuously challenging the status quo
• Drive continuous improvement and automation of analytical solutions and processes, proactively identifying opportunities to solve business and technical challenges

Your profile

Do you think you are a fit? Check your qualifications:

• Degree in STEM or economics/business, withan analytics focus
• 6-8 years of work experience, with at least 3 years in data science field
• Exhibit high level of proficiency in programming languages such as Python, PySpark, SQL and coding best practices
• Experience with Machine Learning and AI (Forecasting, Prediction, Cluster Analysis, Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, Document processing, AI Agents), and eagerness to learn and develop in that area
• A combination of analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, communication, and reporting skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills in English (and Dutch)
• Great to have: Knowledge of the financial sector and/or banking products
• Great to have : Experience in working on azure/ Databricks/ or similar cloud platforms
• Great to have: Affinity towards technical topics including data and machine learning engineering
• Great to have: Microsoft DP-100 certification (Azure Data Scientist Associate)
• Nice to have: Knowledge of agile methodology, and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
• Nice to have: Microsoft AZ-900 certification (basic knowledge of Azure cloud services)
