Qualifications

Based in Central Tech, our team owns the foundational BI and AI Analytics platforms that support Booking.com's global data ecosystem. We design, build and scale capabilities across Tableau, ThoughtSpot, Snowflake Intelligence, Streamlit and internal Python services. We are also building the foundations for AI-powered analytics through Snowflake Semantic Views, Cortex/Insight Agents, Cortex Search and a unified Semantic Layer, enabling trusted data and business context to be consumed consistently across traditional BI, conversational analytics and AI experiences.
As a Data Engineer II in Central Tech, you will play a key role in building and evolving Booking.com's next-generation BI and AI Analytics Platform. You will work across the Semantic and Agentic layers, enabling scalable, governed and high-performance analytical experiences through technologies such as Snowflake Intelligence, Semantic Views, Cortex Agents, Cortex Search, Thoughtspot and dbt.
You will operate at the intersection of data platform engineering, semantic modelling and AI-powered analytics. This includes building the foundations that allow teams to develop and operate trusted semantic models and AI analytical experiences, while establishing the automation, governance, observability and self-service capabilities required to scale them safely across Booking.com.
- Own and contribute to the design and implementation of the Semantic Layer foundation, leveraging technologies such as Snowflake Semantic Views, and dbt, enabling consistent consumption across BI and AI Analytics experiences.
- Contribute to the development and operation of AI-powered analytics capabilities, including Snowflake Intelligence, Cortex/Insight Agents, Cortex Search, and ThoughtSpot.
- Build and evolve platform capabilities for AI Analytics, including agent evaluation, observability, guardrails, access controls and integrations with semantic models.
- Build and maintain scalable, reusable, and governed data models that serve as a single source of truth for analytics and BI use cases.
- Define and enforce data governance standards, including metric definitions, data contracts, access controls, and lifecycle management.
- Design and operate the infrastructure supporting semantic and BI workloads, ensuring high availability, performance, and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate with data engineers and analytics teams to ensure seamless integration between data pipelines and semantic models.
- Support and enhance BDX-managed Streamlit applications, enabling interactive and user-friendly data exploration experiences.
- Contribute to the evolution of the broader BI platform ecosystem (e.g., Tableau and other tools) by ensuring strong alignment with the semantic layer.
- Build automation for deployments, testing, monitoring, and data quality checks across semantic and BI layers.
- Drive performance optimization for queries, models, and dashboards to support large-scale analytics workloads.
- Act as a technical point of contact for semantic layer and BI platform issues, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Data, SRE, Security) to ensure secure, compliant, and scalable platform solutions.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers or contractors, ensuring high-quality delivery and operational excellence.
- Continuously improve platform capabilities through innovation, experimentation, and adoption of modern data tooling.
We are looking for engineers who are passionate about building scalable data platforms, semantic layers, and AI-powered analytics capabilities, and who understand that high-quality analytics depends on well-modeled, governed data.
Candidates who match the following tend to thrive in this role:
- 4–6+ years of experience in data platform engineering, analytics engineering, or BI platform roles.
- Hands‑on experience with modern data technologies such as Snowflake, dbt, and semantic layer technologies (e.g., Cube or similar).
- Strong understanding of semantic modeling, metric layers, data governance, and BI consumption patterns.
- Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming/scripting language (Python preferred).
- Experience working with cloud environments (AWS preferred) and modern data infrastructure.
- Experience with BI and analytics platforms such as ThoughtSpot, Tableau, or similar.
- Experience with AI-powered or conversational analytics, LLM/agent concepts, or agentic systems is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with platform integrations through APIs or standards such as MCP is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to design reliable, scalable, and production‑ready platform solutions.
- Ability to work cross‑functionally, communicate effectively, and navigate ambiguity with a strong sense of ownership.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
