Job summary

ABN AMRO Bank N.V. is looking for an enthusiastic data engineer with 2+ years of experience to join the Finance & Risk Data Domain. You will build and maintain automated data pipelines that generate datasets for the bank, within an agile scrum team.

The role uses Python, PySpark/Databricks, SQL and Airflow to deliver reliable data products. You will contribute to monitoring, onboarding new data, and enhancing existing platforms while following clean-code practices and automated testing.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of data or software engineering experience.
• Proficient in Python, SQL and PySpark/Databricks.
• Experience with Airflow and software engineering practices (clean code, automated testing, patterns).

At a glance

We are looking for an enthusiastic data engineer with 2 or more years of experience, to join us at the Finance & Risk Data Domain at the hay level of 9-10. (50.000 - 81000 yearly gross, excluding benefits and based on 36hr/week). This department consists of multiple teams that each work on one or more data products that serve a particular goal. When you join one of these teams, you will work on those data products. These products support the reporting function of the bank, and allow downstream teams to prepare both internal and external reports, that help steer decisions and disclose required information to the central bank.

Your job

You will develop and maintain the automated processes and solutions that create datasets for the rest of the bank. This will be done as part of a scrum team and you will participate in the team's scrum event. Some typical activities include:

• Monitoring production processes and troubleshooting
• Creating new data products (onboarding new data, adding transformation logic etc.)
• Adding features to underlying platforms
• Improvement and optimization of existing code

Our software is built using a mix of Python and SQL, and runs on databricks. Scheduling resides in Airflow and we use several internal libraries/components that provide standardized features for all data teams in ABN AMRO. We are therefore looking for the following skills profile:

• Python
• Pyspark / databricks experience
• SQL
• Airflow
• Software development practices such as:
  • Clean code
  • (unit) testing
  • Patterns

Your profile

You are a data engineer who enjoys turning complex data challenges into reliable and maintainable solutions. You like working in a collaborative environment, take ownership of your work and are continuously looking for ways to improve both the solutions you build and the way the team works.

You have at least 2 years of relevant experience in data or software engineering and are comfortable working with:

• Python
• SQL
• PySpark and/or Databricks
• Airflow
• Software engineering practices such as clean code, automated testing and design patterns

Experience with every technology is not essential. We are particularly interested in your ability to learn, solve problems and apply sound engineering principles.

Because our data products support Finance & Risk reporting across the bank, you understand the importance of data quality, reliability and maintainability. You enjoy investigating issues, discussing solutions with colleagues and taking responsibility for getting solutions into production.

You work well in an agile team, communicate openly and are comfortable sharing knowledge as well as learning from others.
