Job summary

Merapar is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build and maintain data lakehouse platforms. You will work closely with clients and our engineering teams to deliver secure, compliant data solutions, while communicating complex topics to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities include governance, data residency, and pipelines with strong focus on data quality and privacy. Fluent English and Dutch, plus right to work in the Netherlands, are required.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and building data lakehouse architectures.
• Hands-on AWS experience (S3, Glue, Lake Formation, Athena, Redshift).
• Experience handling PII data with encryption/masking and access control.
• Experience building ML feature stores or ML pipelines in production.
• Some knowledge deploying AI or ML models on AWS.
• Knowledge of data residency rules and GDPR compliance.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical topics to non-technical audiences.
• Experience consulting with clients or internal stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL and Scala for data engineering.
• Solid understanding of data security and privacy rules.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement data lakehouse solutions leveraging AWS services.
• Collaborate with clients and engineering teams to build secure, compliant data platforms.
• Explain architecture decisions and timelines in plain language to clients.
• Manage client relationships and keep projects on track.
• Build and maintain data pipelines with a focus on quality, security, and compliance.
• Work with analysts, security, and legal to ensure aligned outcomes.
