Job summary

Delft University of Technology is seeking a researcher in Network Science to join the NAS section. The candidate will work on network resilience, studying how networks withstand and recover from disruptions in telecom, power, and transportation infrastructures.

Qualifications

The candidate will join the section Network Architectures and Services (NAS).

The candidate for this position has expertise in the broad area of Network Science. Network Science is the theory of dynamic processes (services, functions, software) on graphs (topology, structure, hardware). A special focus for this position lies on network resilience, the network’s capability to withstand, adapt to and recover from external disruptions during a given time interval. Disruptions include topological disruptions, like failures or attacks of a subset of nodes or links, but also service perturbations such as smaller bandwidth, more packet loss or delay in telecom networks, and voltage or current drops or spikes in power grids.

Job requirements

The candidate is able to apply theory of Network Science to real-world problems in infrastructural networks, including telecommunication, power grid and transportation. The candidate is expected to be capable of extending and applying the network resilience expertise in NAS. Applicants should have a PhD degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics or operations research.

The candidate is able to integrate expertise from diverse domains and collaborate with the EEMCS groups of Prof. Van de Veen and Prof. Leus (graph signal processing), Prof. Wang (network data science), Prof. Redig (stochastic processes on networks) and Prof. Hamdioui (computer architectures). In addition, applicants should have:

  • Skills and ambition to set up new collaborations with industrial partners.
  • Ability and drive to acquire funded research projects at the national and international level.
  • Skills and passion for education, including lecturing, supervision of students, and the courses listed on the NAS website.

Conditions of employment

This position is offered as an Academic Career Track position (0.8–1.0 FTE). During the Academic Career Track, you are expected to grow towards an Associate Professor position within a maximum of eight years, for which a position will be available.

You will regularly discuss your development and results with senior staff based on a personalized development plan and performance criteria agreed upon at the start of your Academic Career Track.

You will start with a temporary contract that will be converted to a permanent contract no later than 12–18 months after a positive evaluation, based on continuous confidence in your development potential and fit in the organisation.

Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ programme as part of the Academic Career Track Development programme.

TU Delft sets high standards for the English competency of the teaching staff and offers training to improve English competency. If you do not speak Dutch, courses are offered to learn the Dutch language within three years.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, discounts on health insurance, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged and you can work partly from home.
