The Netherlands Chamber Orchestra invites applications for the position of Assistant Principal Double Bass (56%). The successful candidate will perform at national and international concert stages and opera, and contribute to educational/social projects in addition to core orchestral duties.

The role includes playing in chamber music, supporting management through leadership of the section, and participating in auditions, rehearsals, and performances starting August 2026.

Profile:

• You are versatile and ensure excellent performances on (inter)national concert stages and at the opera whilst mastering a broad repertory. That requires a professional and flexible work ethic. This unique combination makes for a versatile work environment. Besides playing in the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, your annual workload will involve playing chamber music and participating in educational/social projects;
• You radiate enthusiasm on every stage;
• You have a talent for harmonious teamwork, possess open communication skills and know how to give positive feedback;
• Alongside their musical responsibilities, as assistant principal double bass, you make -together with the principals- an active contribution to the management of the orchestra. They lead sectional rehearsals, they coach members of the section and they are able to give and receive positive feedback. They also encourage a collaborative working relationship with the section and between the other sections and are the link between individual players and management.

Employment conditions:

• You start with a fixed-term employment contract;
• Contract size is 56%;
• Salary in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement for Dutch Orchestras, scale 2 (column 110%). The step depends on your years of experience in a professional orchestra;
• Mandatory participation in the ABP company pension scheme;
• Different allowances according to collective bargaining agreement for Dutch Orchestras, which you can find onwww.vvno.nl , the website of the association of Dutch Orchestras;
• Indication of the start date of employment for the mentioned position will be August 2026;
• Unique Opportunity to play in opera’s, symphonic music, chamber music and educational/social projects.

Please note that the auditions are only open to EU citizens and citizens from, Iceland, Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein, or other musicians already holding a non-temporary residence permit for the Netherlands with full work permit.
