ABN AMRO Bank N.V. is seeking an AI Tech Lead to steer GenAI initiatives across the bank, from business conversations to production. You will own architecture, drive end-to-end delivery, and stay close to code in a fast-paced team of 25+ AI professionals in Amsterdam.

You will lead on Voice AI, RAG pipelines, agents, and document intelligence, partnering with business teams to deliver measurable impact while maintaining technical excellence. This role is hybrid in Amsterdam.

Qualifications

• Led AI/software initiatives end-to-end: owned architecture, shipped solutions.
• Wrote Python that runs in production, not just notebooks.

Job description

Our AI team builds GenAI applications that go into production at one of the Netherlands' largest banks. Voice agents handling thousands of contact center calls. AI lending assistants supporting lenders in writing credit proposals. Agentic workflows that actually make it to users.

We don't stop at prototypes. We build, ship, measure, iterate, and do it fast. As an AI Tech Lead, you set the technical direction across these initiatives and stay close enough to the code to keep that pace honest. If you've got 7+ years of engineering experience, a serious track record of shipping AI in production, and you're looking to lead at a scale most companies won't give you for years, read on.

You set the technical direction on GenAI initiatives that span the bank: from the first conversation with a business team through to production and beyond. You decide how things get built, you build with the team, and you make sure the right things actually get done in a complex organisation. Your focus shifts with the use case: backend, frontend, from leveraging LLM's to agentic. You own outcomes, not just architecture diagrams. You work directly with the people whose problems you're solving, and you bring the rest of the team along.

• Own architecture and technical quality across multiple workstreams: trade-offs, patterns, what we standardise on, what we don't.
• Work with Agents, plain LLMs, code, Databricks and whatever the right tool is for the job.
• Raise the technical bar of the team: code reviews, design reviews, knowledge sharing, coaching mediors and juniors.

You'll be part of a 25+ person AI team inside ABN AMRO's Innovation department. We operate with a startup mindset within a bank that serves millions of customers and employs thousands of individuals: fast feedback loops, direct lines to business leadership, and real deployment at scale. Your profile

We don't hire on CV titles. We hire on what you've shipped and what you've led. The team includes people who came through software engineering, data science, infra — what they share is proven AI expertise and a bias for building over theorising. As a tech lead, you bring the same plus the ability to take an ambiguous problem and a group of strong engineers and turn it into something running in production.

What you've done:

• Led the technical side of AI or software initiatives end-to-end: you've owned the architecture, made the hard calls, and shipped.
• Built and deployed AI applications using LLMs, RAG, agents, fine-tuning, voice AI, or equivalent (at production scale, with real users).
• Written Python that runs in production: you're a developer, not a notebook user, and you still enjoy writing the code.
• Worked with cloud infrastructure: Azure preferred, AWS or GCP also fine.
• Operated inside a complex organisation (or built the muscle elsewhere) and got things done across teams, not just within one.

How you work:

• You take ambiguous problems, set a direction, and bring people with you (without waiting for permission).
• You have strong technical opinions, formed through experience, and you're willing to defend them and change them.
• You're as interested in the business problem as in the technical solution.
• You explain your decisions clearly to people who don't share your context (engineers, business, leadership).
• You follow the GenAI field closely because you're genuinely curious, not because you have to.
• You've built something on the side (a tool, a project, a contribution) that shows you don't wait to be told what to learn.
