The Dynamics.oRG ERC project at TU/e invites applications for three PhD positions in dynamics on and of random graphs. You will join a collaborative team to study phase transitions of stochastic processes on random graphs, with applications to infections spread and consensus dynamics.
You will work four years full-time with teaching components and enjoy a strong training program, generous leave and social benefits at the Dutch university.
Within the ERC Advanced Grant Project Dynamics on and of Random Graphs (Dynamics.oRG) of Remco van der Hofstad, we are looking for 3 PhD students working on phase transitions of stochastic processes on random graphs. Such processes model, amongst others, the spread of infections and consensus reaching. The challenge is to get a grip on the double randomness of stochastic processes on the random environment formed by random graphs. Does the random environment change the nature of the phase transition, and, if so, when, why and how? The aim of the ERC project is to develop a deep mathematical understanding of such phenomena.
You will be working in a team of PhD students, PostDocs and key collaborators, to tackle these challenging problems as a team, while working also on your own project. You will further contribute to societal impact of the mathematics of network theory beyond your core research project.
A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful, green campus within walking distance of the central train station.
