Job summary

Welo Data is seeking a Translation Validator for Malay to support a synthetic data program. You will review English source documents with two Malay translations, choose the preferred version, and justify your choice.

You’ll also assess audio transcripts, ensuring accuracy and quality across samples, independently and within deadlines. The role is remote from Malaysia, freelance, with a two-week commitment and flexible scheduling.

About the Role Welo Data is seeking experienced linguists to support a synthetic data generation program for a leading technology client. In this role, you will perform A/B preference testing of machine-generated translations from English into Malay, helping to evaluate and improve the quality of AI-generated content. As a Translation Validator, you will independently review an English source document alongside two machine-generated translations (Variant A and Variant B), select the preferred translation, and provide a written justification for your choice. Each sample is reviewed by three independent validators working in a blind process.

What You’ll Do

• Review English source documents alongside two machine-generated Malay translations.
• Evaluate both variants based on accuracy, fluency, and overall translation quality.
• Select the preferred translation and provide a clear written justification for your assessment.
• Review audio files and their corresponding transcriptions, evaluating accuracy, completeness, and overall quality.

Requirements:

• Native-level fluency in Malay (written and spoken) .
• Strong written communication skills in the target language.
• Proficiency in English.
• Background in linguistics, translation, or language quality assessment preferred.
• Ability to work independently with high attention to detail and consistency.
• Familiarity with Romanized script conventions for the relevant language is a plus (for transliteration tasks).
